Establishment of the National Council for sustainable development

(VAN) Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed Decision No. 560/QD-TTg dated June 25, 2024, to establish the National Council for Sustainable Development.

The National Council for Sustainable Development was established on the basis of consolidating the National Council for Sustainable Development and Improving Competitiveness (established in Decision No. 641/QD-TTg dated May 31, 2012 and consolidated in Decision No. 419/QD-TTg dated April 18, 2018 of the Prime Minister).

The Chairman of the Council is Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long. The Vice Chairman of the Council is the Minister of Planning and Investment.

Council members include representatives of leaders of ministries, ministerial-level agencies, and government agencies: Government Office; Ministry of Planning and Investment; Foreign Office; the Financial; Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs; Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment; Science and technology; Ministry of Education and Training; Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development; Ministry of Information and Communications; Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Ministry of Health; Ministry of Construction; The transportation; Ministry of Industry and Trade; Judicial; Police; Ministry of Home Affairs; Government inspector; The state bank of Viet Nam; Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs; Vietnam Television; Voice of Vietnam; Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS); Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

In addition, Council members also have representatives of leaders of the Party's committees: Central Propaganda Committee; Central Economic Committee and representatives of leaders of socio-political organizations and business community: Central Committee of Vietnam Fatherland Front; Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry; Vietnam Association of Small and Medium Enterprises.

Functions and tasks of the National Council for Sustainable Development

The Council is an interdisciplinary coordination organization that advises and advises the Prime Minister in directing and coordinating among relevant parties to implement sustainable development in Vietnam.

The Council is responsible for researching, consulting, recommending and proposing to the Prime Minister in developing and organizing the implementation of guidelines, strategies, mechanisms and policies to implement sustainable development on a wide scale; Deploying global commitments on sustainable development in Vietnam, including effective implementation of the National Action Plan to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; Evaluate and summarize the results of sustainable development implementation on a national scale and periodically organize national conferences on sustainable development.

Advise the Prime Minister to direct and coordinate between ministries, ministerial-level agencies, Government agencies, People's Committees of provinces, centrally-run cities, and relevant agencies and organizations to solve problems. Resolve important, inter-sectoral and inter-regional issues in implementing sustainable development.

Council members work according to the Council's Organization and Operation Regulations issued by the Council Chairman. According to current regulations, council members work part-time, promote personal responsibility, and enjoy benefits.
