Establishing 8 int’l bridge points to promote lychee consumption with Bac Giang

(VAN) On June 8, Bac Giang Provincial People’s Committee in collaboration with the Ministries of Industry and Trade, Agriculture, and Rural Development (MARD) held a webinar to promote thieu lychee consumption in 2021.

Besides 22 bridge points from domestic cities and provinces nationwide, there were other eight international bridge points in Japan, Australia, Singapore, and China. The webinar features Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat, and Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam in Bac Giang bridge point.

The webinar focused on issues including facilitating clearance for thieu lychee, bring thieu lychee into domestic e-commercial platforms, supermarkets, and main wholesale markets.

From the Bac Giang bridge point Minister Nguyen Hong Dien highly valued Bac Giang’s implementation on promoting thieu lychee consumption. However, other agricultural products also need similar measures to boost their values and products’ efficiency.

According to the Bac Giang Provincial People's Committee, the consumption of lychee over the past time seems fluent despite the complicated situation of the Covid-19 pandemic, the consumption volume as of June 7 reached more than 53 thousand tons in the domestic market and export.

Bac Giang province has strictly managed Covid-19 infected F0 individuals (only in industrial zones) to not spread the virus to the community and ensured no Covid-19 case in Luc Ngan district, the largest lychee hub. Up to now, Bac Giang's lychee is being protected by trademarks in 8 countries.

Particularly, in March, thieu lychee in Luc Ngan – Bac Giang has been the first Vietnamese product to obtain a Geographical Indication (GI) certificate in Japan, paving the way for promoting of GI protection in other countries; it is also the “passport” for thieu lychee in Luc Ngan – Bac Giang to export to other large and potential markets.

Chairman of Bac Giang Provincial People's Committee Le Anh Duong said, dubbed as the largest lychee cultivation area in the country, with a creative and proactive way, Bac Giang lychees are presented in more than 30 countries and territories around the world annually. This year, to cope with Covid-19 outbreaks, Bac Giang province prepared three scenarios for harvesting and consuming lychee in 2021.

On the other hand, a series of trade promotion activities have been carried out, supporting the consumption of lychee and agricultural products.

Determining to successfully realize the "dual goal" of both epidemic prevention and control and economic development, it is believed that 2021 would continue to be a successful year for lychee growers, businesses, and traders involved in lychee consumption, emphasized Duong.

With increasing requirements of the market, the province suggested MARD pay attention to directing and guiding the implementation of quality management, planting area codes, and source traceability for original lychee products to ensure meeting export’s conditions to China, Japan, and some potential markets; supporting the province to supervise the whole process of harvesting, fumigation, and plant quarantine before exporting to the Japanese market.

The province proposed the MoIT to continue to support the province to connect with experienced enterprises in exporting agricultural products, supporting lychee consumption on e-commerce platforms. On the other hand, the province also suggested the ministry instruct the Departments, Departments, and Trade Offices of Vietnam in the two provinces of Guangxi, Yunnan (China), in Japan, Australia, Singapore, and other countries around the world to support the province to connect and consume lychee.

In addition, Bac Giang province also suggested that the Embassy, ​​the Counselor in charge of the Chinese economy and trade in Vietnam, and the Department, authorities, and units from the Chinese side promote trade connections, introduces and creates favorable conditions for businesses and traders arrive in Bac Giang to purchase and consume lychee.

On the other hand, creating favorable conditions for fruit traders and trade associations to implement flexible delivery methods amid pandemic, consume lychee through online channels; facilitate the arrangement of warehouses and storage yards for lychee, handling administrative procedures,  prioritizing customs clearance, among others.

Bac Giang province commits to giving drastic and specific direction to each group of issues concerned by the delegates with the motto of creating the most favorable conditions for lychee consumption; maximize traditional distribution channels with domestic and foreign customers. At the same time, it will deploy e-commerce distribution channels and flexible delivery methods to ensure pandemic prevention and control.
