VND 1.8 billion fine on 2 vessels violating foreign waters

On July 1st, the Command Board of the Border Guard of Ca Mau Province held a conference to review the Border Guard work for the first 6 months of 2024.

In the first 6 months of 2024, the Command Board of the Border Guard of Ca Mau Province utilized 4 boats/32 officers and soldiers and mobilized 5 boats/30 fishermen. They also used communication systems to inform vessels operating at sea to participate in search and rescue operations, successfully rescuing 33 crew members and bringing them safely to shore.

Additionally, they deployed 92 officers and soldiers to participate in forest fire fighting. They arrested 5 cases/12 individuals for illegal use, possession, and transportation of drugs. Furthermore, they handled administrative violations in 101 cases/168 instances, imposing fines totalling more than VND 2 billion.

The Command Board of the Border Guard of Ca Mau Province has advised the Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau Province to impose administrative fines on two fishing vessels that violated foreign waters and were detained, with a total fine of more than VND 1.8 billion. They effectively maintain public mobilization models, helping the people in the border areas of the province develop economically, eradicate hunger, reduce poverty, and stabilize their lives.

They organized patrols and inspections, detecting 14 cases/17 instances of violations in the field of fisheries exploitation, and imposing administrative fines totalling more than VND 600 million. They handled 15 cases/24 instances, confiscated 32 homemade electric shock devices used for destructive fishing, imposed administrative fines of more than VND 130 million, and encouraged fishermen to voluntarily hand over 80 electric shock devices.

Colonel Pham Anh Chuong, Commander of the Border Guard of Ca Mau Province, emphasized: The agencies and units continue to effectively implement border guard measures, actively and effectively conduct search and rescue operations, support people in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, and synchronously implement professional measures to effectively combat various types of crimes.

"Strengthen patrols and controls to end fishing vessels violating foreign waters, violating IUU fishing regulations, combat destructive fishing, and firmly protect maritime security and sovereignty", Mr. Chuong stated.

On this occasion, the Command Board of the Ca Mau Border Guard awarded certificates of merit to 54 individuals for their outstanding achievements in performing their duties in the first six months of 2024.
