Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tan in Long Ho district, Vinh Long province is one of the pioneering farmers developing biosafe eel farming using hi-tech for more than 10 years. Currently, his hi-tech intensive eel farm is about 2 ha wide, including 3 zones. In which, the broodstock area is 15,000m2, the eel breeding area is 800m2 and the commercial eel area is 3,000m2. This year, the output is expected to reach 6 - 8 million eel seeds. Besides selling breeds, the Company also cooperates in transferring breeding techniques to local people.
“With the support of local leaders, we continue to expand the scale of positioning the eel farming industry as an aquaculture industry that brings high economic efficiency. Along with modern technology, machinery, farming processes and disease treatment for commercial eels, the company also creates a source of clean, safe, standard and quality eels, creating jobs for more than 30 workers. The average income/person/month is from VND 7 million to VND 10 million", Mr Nguyen Thanh Tan - Director of Vinh Long Hi-tech Eel Joint Stock Company shared.
In particular, Vinh Long province has actively called for investment in developing high-tech agriculture, thereby attracting a number of businesses to invest, and contributing to creating jobs for local workers.
According to Mr Huynh Phu Loc, Director of 620 Agriculture Joint Stock Company, March 2023, The enterprise has invested in a clean fruit and vegetable production project in Tan Thanh commune, Binh Tan district. The company produces vegetables and fruits such as melon (6ha scale, output 35 tons/crop). There are also tomatoes, baby cucumbers, pepino melons, and seedless watermelons... produced by control technology imported from Israel. The company also invested in a 16-ha project to grow VietGAP sweet potatoes for export to the Chinese market and a lab project to produce sweet potato varieties using the tissue culture method.
“Enterprises realize that the market has great demand for clean and organic fruit and vegetable products, so they have invested in these projects. Vinh Long province in particular is a locality with very good logistics advantages, with My Thuan - Can Tho expressway, Binh Minh port, a quite developed waterway and road traffic and less prone to saltwater intrusion... In particular, the province's support mechanism to attract investment in high-tech agricultural development".
Determining that Hi-tech agriculture is an inevitable direction, Vinh Long strives that by 2025, the rate of agricultural products applying Hi-tech reach over 20% of total agricultural products and by 2030 this rate will reach 50%. According to Mr Truong Thanh Danh, Director of Vinh Long Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, to achieve the set goals, the agricultural sector will continue to coordinate with localities to effectively implement the 11th Resolution of the Provincial Party Committee for the 2020 - 2025 term on agricultural production applying Hi-tech, and Resolution of the Provincial People's Council on policies to support the development of agriculture applying Hi-tech and organic agriculture in the period of 2022 - 2030.
Resolution 03 of the Vinh Long Provincial Party Committee identifies 6 groups of tasks and solutions for developing Hi-tech agriculture: Promote information and propaganda work, improve the quality of human resources, and enhance state management capacity. Additionally, attract investment, build and develop businesses and cooperatives, have development mechanisms and policies and gradually build agricultural areas applying Hi-tech.
