Vietnam’s tea accounts for over 50% of Taiwan’s tea import volume

(VAN) The Taiwan market recorded a growth in both quality and quantity regarding Vietnamese tea imports, making Vietnam its largest tea supplier in 2021.

According to Taiwan Customs Administration, Taiwan's tea imports in the 11 months of 2021 reached 30.8 thousand tons, worth USD 80.7 million, up 11% in volume and 14.3% in value compared to the same period in 2020.

The average price of tea imported into this market in the 11 months of 2021 reached USD 2,623/ton, an increase of 3% over the same period last year.

Vietnam is Taiwan’s main tea supplier. In the 11 months of 2021, Vietnamese tea imported into Taiwan reached 16.97 thousand tons, worth USD 26.7 million, up 8.7% in volume and 7.8% in value compared to the same period in 2020.

Vietnamese tea imports occupied a proportion of 55.2% of Taiwan’s tea import value in the 11 months of 2021. Despite the grand figure, it is, as a matter of fact, a slight decrease of 1.2 percentage points considering the same period in 2020.

The Sri Lankan market comes next with 4.6 thousand tons, valued at USD 19.5 million, up 20% in volume and 24.6% in value over the same period in 2020. India reached 3.3 thousand tons, worth USD 7.1 million, up 0.9% in volume and 17.4% in value. Indonesia reached 2 thousand tons, worth USD 4.5 million, up 10.9% in volume and 10.9% in value.
