According to the Taiwan Customs Office, Taiwan's tea imports in the first seven months of 2021 reached 19,100 tons, valued at USD 51.9 million, up 15.8% in volume and 18% in value compared to the same period in 2020, with Vietnam, Sri Lanka and India being the three largest tea suppliers.

Vietnam in particular takes the lead with 10 thousand tons, worth USD 15.7 million, which is an increase of 15.3% in volume and 14% in value over the same period in the year before. Vietnamese tea accounted for 52.5% of Taiwan's total tea import volume.

Vietnam is also the biggest black and green tea supplier to Taiwan. To be more specific, in the first seven months of the year, Vietnam's black tea imported to Taiwan reached 5.6 thousand tons, valued at USD 8.8 million, accounting for 41.7% of the total import volume; Vietnamese green tea reached 4.4 thousand tons, valued at USD 6.9 million, accounting for 78.9% of the total import volume.

Although accounting for more than half of the market share in the first seven months of the year, the price of Vietnamese tea imported into Taiwan is relatively low, only USD 1,345/ton on average, much cheaper than the other two markets behind. Sri Lanka’s tea is sold at a price of USD 4,252/ton, while in the case of India’s tea the price is USD 2,105/ton.
