Vietnamese Ri6 durian recently made its debut in the UK market
According to the Vietnam Trade Office in the UK, a 5-ton shipment of Ri6 Vietnamese durian was cleared for official export on May 4. This shipment is slated for distribution in supermarkets in the UK.
Ri6 durian is one of the most famous specialty fruits in the Mekong Delta. The UK importer of durians is confident in the product's quality and anticipates positive market response. As a result, they are preparing for additional shipments in the future.
The Vietnam Trade Office in the UK reported that the superior quality of Ri6 durian, in addition to the preferential tax-free importation into the UK under the UK-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA), has given this Vietnamese fruit a competitive advantage in the UK market over durians from other countries.
Durians imported from countries without tax incentives are subject to a tax rate of 8% while Vietnamese durians enjoy a 0% preferential tax rate under the UKVFTA Agreement. Consequently, Vietnamese businesses can compete with similar products from Thailand and Malaysia.
Trade experts believe that exporting businesses will need a marketing strategy with an emphasis on digital marketing, in order to expand export opportunities to the UK market.
Digital marketing is a global that Vietnamese businesses need to follow in a developed market such as the UK to promote exports in the future.
Many Vietnamese specialty fruits have been distributed in the UK market including: Bac Giang lychee, Tan Lac red grapefruit and Dien Yen Thuy pomelo, Cao Phong orange of Hoa Binh province. Thanks to achieving Global GAP criteria for product quality and production processes, Vietnamese fruit farmers and exporters have made significant progress in recent years.
