According to the Vietnam Trade Office in Singapore, the Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore recently had a meeting with the Singapore Food Authority (SFA) to promote the opening of the market for Vietnamese pork, chicken, and poultry eggs in Singapore.

Singapore is a country that depends heavily on imported food. Currently, Singapore is only self-sufficient in about 10% of its total domestic food consumption needs, the remaining 90% is imported from abroad. Therefore, ensuring food security is one of Singapore's top important strategies.

Every year, Singapore imports about USD 1.2 billion worth of seafood products, of which Vietnam supplies about 9.7%; and imports about USD 460 million worth of rice products, of which Vietnam supplies about 28%.

At the meeting, Damian Chan, the CEO of SFA, said that through a survey of Vietnamese livestock companies in 2024, SFA highly appreciated the scale of livestock farming, technology level, and machinery and equipment in poultry slaughter and processing lines, poultry egg production at enterprises in Vietnam such as QL, C.P, MeatDeli, Ba Huan, San Ha...

SFA assesses the potential for heat-processed chicken products from Vietnam to be considered for official import into Singapore soon, hoping that poultry eggs and other meat products can meet future requirements. Singapore also hopes that Vietnam will coordinate more closely in technical exchanges between SFA and Vietnamese agencies, hoping that the assessment process will be completed by the end of February 2025 with good results.

Abdul Jalil, Assistant CEO of SFA, added that by the end of February 2025, SFA will conduct online assessments of a number of Vietnamese factories to complete the assessment process according to Singapore's regulations.

Every year, Singapore imports meat of all kinds with a total value of more than SGD 1.28 billion. However, fresh pork, chicken, and poultry eggs from Vietnam are still not allowed to be officially exported to the Singapore market.
