Vietnam Post aiding farmers to put agricultural products on EC platform.
On the morning of December 2nd, the forum “Farmers with agricultural digital conversion” was held in Hanoi, discussing the current picture of digital transformation in agriculture; debating the advantages, disadvantages and difficulties in the application of digital conversion in agriculture.
Additionally, it also included the determination of the role and position of farmers in digital conversion, recommendations of policymakers, scientists and experts regarding digital conversion in agriculture.
Speaking at the forum, Mr. Luong Quoc Doan, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmer’s Union said, the Vietnam Farmer’s Union will promote communication to raise awareness of farmers and society about digital conversion, forming and connecting specialized pages about digital transformation, digital economy on the portal and fan page of Vietnam Farmer’s Union at all levels nationally.
The Union also formed and transferred models to support farmers in digital conversion and coordinating with businesses and licensed units (Viettel Pay, VNPT Pay, Postpay of Vietnam Post, Momo…) deploying various types of digital finance to support farmers, such as peer-to-peer lending, cashless payment, Mobile money.
Currently, Vietnam is rated as one of the fastest-growing e-commerce (EC) marketplaces in South East Asia, only behind Indonesia in the South East Asia region.
Moreover, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has changed the consumption habits of people from shopping through traditional channels to buying goods online through EC platforms.
Until November 2021, through the support of functional ministries and businesses leading in the e-commerce field, Especially, more than 2.5 million agricultural production households in provinces and cities have been listed on Postmart.vn EC platform of Vietnam Post, millions of farmers were trained in digital skills, nearly 50.000 agricultural product were placed on EC platforms and thousands of digital payment has been done.
This shows the initial effectiveness of the progress of the agricultural digital conversion, digital conversion is a long journey and for it to achieve the above effectiveness, it is necessary to have the synchronous participation of Central and local agencies and departments.
The forum is an opportunity for state management agencies at central and local levels, businesses that are developing technology, digital conversion like Vietnam Post to provide farmers with knowledge and equipment for them to actively change their production thinking to meet the needs of digital transformation.
Through the forum, businesses leading in the technology and digital conversion field will connect with farmers to push the process of agricultural digital conversion, help farmers to quickly and effectively access new, advanced and modern technologies in production practice, create the foundation for the digital conversion process that is happening in a very active way, from there pushing the connecting process and agricultural product consumption on e-commerce platforms.
