US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen visited Vietnam on July 18-21 to discuss bilateral economic relations and regional issues. Minister Yellen will have a bilateral meeting with the Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam Nguyen Thi Hong.
During the meeting, Treasury Secretary Yellen talked about the cooperation between the two sides to support the resilience of Vietnam's macro-economy and finance. Ms Yellen emphasizes that the United States supports Vietnam's development and emphasizes the importance of that development to the people of the two countries.
Treasury Secretary Yellen will have a meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. During the meeting, Secretary Yellen will highlight the deep economic ties between the United States and Vietnam that help create greater economic resilience. This is accomplished through what she called "friendshoring" - ordering production in friend countries. She will also meet National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and the Head of the Central Economic Commission Tran Tuan Anh.
In addition, Treasury Secretary Yellen also had a bilateral meeting with Finance Minister Ho Duc Phuc. During the meeting, Ms Yellen will emphasize that the US considers Vietnam a key partner in the Indo-Pacific region. And she will highlight efforts to deepen trade and investment relations, which are very important between the two countries.
Treasury Secretary Yellen will visit a startup, highlighting cooperation to accelerate the clean energy transition. She will also meet female economists and entrepreneurs, and participate in a discussion of female leaders in the field of economics organized by Foreign Trade University.
Secretary Yellen will also deliver a speech on the importance of developing a resilient supply chain through efforts such as “friendshoring” and responding to climate change.
Treasury Secretary Yellen's visit takes place in the context of the two countries celebrating the 10th anniversary of the USA-Vietnam Comprehensive Partnership. Established in 2013, the Comprehensive Partnership between the two countries strengthens the bilateral relationship and promotes commercial and economic relations between the United States and Vietnam.
