At the end of 2022, Nam Giang district police and Tien Phuoc district forest ranger, Quang Nam province, handed two female Sunda pangolins to Vinpearl River Safari Nam Hoi An.

The authorities rescued both in an illegal wildlife trafficking and hunting case.

At the time of reception, these two pangolins showed signs of exhaustion, and traps infected the wounds on their bodies.

Experts at Vinpearl River Safari Nam Hoi An have created a special care roadmap associated with a suitable diet. The two pangolins were kept in a simulated natural environment for the best recovery.

After a period of care and treatment, both pangolins recovered spectacularly. What is surprising is that it gave birth.

In January 2023, the first of two rescued mother pangolins suddenly gave birth to a baby. Most recently, on May 13, another baby pangolin was born, the child of the remaining rescued individual.

Both pangolin mother and child pairs at Safari Nam Hoi An are healthy and growing fast.

The successful rescue and breeding of two pangolins at Vinpearl River Safari Nam Hoi An is a great success in conservation efforts, raising awareness of wildlife protection and contributing to the conservation and protection of species. Rare animals are in danger of extinction.

Sunda pangolin is classified as group IB on the list of endangered and rare animals threatened with extinction. This species is often hunted for its scales and meat.

It is native to Southeast Asia, including Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, and the islands of Borneo, Java, Sumatra, and the Lesser Sunda Islands. It prefers forested primary, secondary, and scrub forest habitats and lives in rubber and palm oil plantations. It is mainly arboreal.

Pangolins, as a family, are among the most protected animals due to heavy poaching, exploitation, and trafficked animals. Like other pangolin species, the Sunda is hunted for its skin, scales, and meat, and it is used in clothing manufacturing and traditional medicine.
