Tuna exports to the EU are increasing very strongly at the beginning of this year.

According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), in January this year, tuna exports to the EU reached more than $ 17 million, an increase of 96% over the same period last year, an increase of nearly 2 times.

Tuna exports to most EU markets are growing. Among them, there are markets with very strong increases such as Italy, which increased by 364% compared to January 2023. Tuna exports to Sweden, Belgium and Cyprus increased 11 times, 2 times and 5 times respectively over the same period.

Vietnam's exports of tuna product groups to the EU in the first month of the year also increased over the same period. Exports of fresh, frozen and dried tuna increased 317 times. Exports of other processed tuna, mainly frozen steamed tuna loin, increased more than 9 times.

VASEP commented that tariff incentives under the Free Trade Agreement between the EU and Vietnam (EVFTA) are creating great attraction for Vietnamese tuna products in the EU market in the first month of this year.

Across all markets, in January, Vietnam's tuna exports reached $ 79 million, up 58% over the same period last year. The US is still the largest market for Vietnamese tuna with a turnover of $ 26 million.
