"Sustainable development not only focuses on economic development but must respect the inevitable needs of society as well as not harm the environment," said Mr. Pham Anh, Deputy General Director of One Company Limited Binh Long Rubber member.
Since 2019, Binh Long Company has been one of three units that Vietnam Rubber Group (VRG) chose to lead green growth and sustainable development. Although there are many difficulties, such as incomplete standard systems epidemics, by the end of 2019, the Company was granted many sustainable forest certificates, such as FSC for 4,000 hectares of rubber forests.
In 2020-2021, the Company was granted a full sustainable forest certificate for the entire forest area of 14,860 hectares.
At the same time, Binh Long Company participated in the sustainable business certification journey organized by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI). From 2019 to 2022, the Company will be among the top 100 sustainable enterprises. In 2022, we are in the top 10.
To contribute to VRG's sustainable development strategy, Binh Long Company has proposed several solutions. First, enhance cleaner production, including controls to reduce input pollution. The Company has used several materials, electricity, water, chemicals, etc., that are lower than the norms issued by VRG.
Second, focus on wastewater treatment. Currently, wastewater treatment chemicals are extensive. Binh Long Company has a solution to reduce the amount of chemicals by up to 90%.
Third, research natural substances to produce latex, including less toxic chemicals, to protect workers' health. Additionally, use natural sources such as sun and wind to dry rubber latex sheets.
In caring for the garden, Binh Long company's workers will limit the use of chemical fertilizers and increase the use of microbial fertilizers to increase the amount of nutrients in the soil, helping to increase coverage and prevent erosion of soil erosion by legumes.
According to Mr. Anh, the Company plans to promote products with sustainable certification. Every year from 2020 to 2022, the Company has sold 500 tons of PEFC forest-certified latex at a higher price than rubber latex of the same type. Although the results are still modest, they are significant, proving that the market has accepted rubber products produced in Vietnam and has the opportunity to develop.
"We also have our promotional strategies, especially promoting the Company's logo on products with forest certification," Mr. Anh added.
According to VRG's and The Vietnam Rubber Association's trade promotion programs, Binh Long Company's products have appeared increasingly in domestic and international exhibitions.
Based on these exhibitions, the Company will contact and invite customers and trade partners to see firsthand the green and sustainable production process from raw material areas to processing, packaging, and transportation lines. Mr. Anh commented that this Company's method will build trust from customers and partners.
In the era of Industry 4.0, Binh Long Company also clearly identifies the vital role of digital platforms. Therefore, the Company prioritizes resources so customers can easily access products and trace the origin and geographical indications for products with sustainable forest certification.
At the same time, Binh Long Company will build a website to quickly promote and exchange product information with customers. The Company also made a marketing team to ensure continuous consultation for interested parties.
In the management area of Binh Long Company, there is a natural forest in waterfall area No. 4, which has an area of 24.8 ha. Statistical inspection results show that this forest has 188 species of plants, of which trees have the most significant number of species, with 74 species, followed by the shrub group, with 41 species.
In particular, there are three species in the Vietnam Red Data Book and four in the World Red Data Book. In addition, there are currently 100 species of terrestrial vertebrates in this forest. Among them, 18 species are considered endangered and rare.
The natural forest at Waterfall No. 4 plays a crucial role in creating a rich habitat and improving the climate for neighboring residential areas. It is a place for people to visit, entertain, and for children to experience the diversity of forest flora and fauna.
Therefore, Binh Long Rubber has planned this forest for conservation, eco-tourism, and environmental education. Activities to protect and preserve natural forest areas have been of concern and carried out by the Company for many years. Authorities and communities have the opportunity to comment and participate in the implementation of policies to support the community in forest protection.
