According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce proposed a joint meeting of Thailand, China, Laos, and Vietnam to expand fruit exports and establish a green lane for Thai fruits at each border gate to expedite product release and reduce damage.

According to the Internal Trade Department of Thailand's Ministry of Commerce, the country's total seasonal fruit output is expected to increase by 13% to 5.43 million tons in 2022, mainly durian (up 22%), mangosteen (up 43%), longan (up 7.8%), rambutan (up 6%), and mango (up 5 percent ).

Thailand's Ministry of Commerce has set a target of 287.50 billion baht (USD 8.53 billion) in fruit export revenue, which includes fresh, frozen, dried, and canned fruits. 180 billion baht is estimated to come from China, an increase of 65% over the previous year.

The high export target is mostly due to the rising demand for Thai fruits and an abundance of the 2022 seasonal harvest.

The ministry promotes fruit exports through advance contracts worth up to 450,000 tons, primarily with China.

In an effort to create favorable conditions for fruit exports to China after being staggered by its “Zero-COVID” policy and strict inspection measures at four key border gates namely Mohan, Huu Yiguan (Youyi Guan), Dongxing (Dongxing), and Pingxiang (Pingxiang), Thailand's Ministry of Commerce committed to speeding up negotiations with China to open Dongxing border gate to help liberate Thai fruits.
