Building the national rice brand A An

On April 12, in Dong Thap province, Tan Long Group Joint Stock Company ('Tan Long Group') held a seminar on "Sustainable rice production linkage chain - Happy field".

Mr. Truong Sy Ba, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tan Long Group, said: for the rice industry in the Mekong Delta to develop sustainably along the linkage chain, Tan Long Group has launched a project to establish the rice production linkage chain and building the national rice brand A An.

According to Mr. Truong Sy Ba, to successfully develop a new type of cooperative in the coming time, it is necessary to promote the synchronous application of scientific and technical advances in large-scale field farming.

Tan Long Group's goal of building a rice chain in the future is to first consider the cooperative as a link in the rice production value chain, complete the chain and distribute more profits to farmers. Accordingly, the Group will gradually aim to build a sustainable production ecosystem, cultivate according to the model of large and professional fields, and apply mechanization and high technology to save costs and increase profits for farmers who are members of cooperatives.

Tan Long Group also develops high-quality rice varieties to successfully build a national rice brand and participate in the world rice market. At the same time, priority should be given to large-scale cultivation of high-quality rice varieties such as ST24, ST25, and rice varieties with high export value such as Japonica, Jasmine, DT8, RVT...

Tan Long Group will also focus on implementing a new cooperative model, producing products that are safe for consumers' health, strictly controlling pesticide residues in products, and developing organic rice farming and good manufacturing practices (GlobalGAP, VietGAP) to help increase productivity and reduce losses during and after harvest.

"We actively cooperate with farmers and expand rice product consumption for people under the new model of cooperatives to build a qualified rice material area and develop a sustainable rice production chain towards the vision of producing more than 1 million tons of high-quality finished rice before 2030 and successfully building the national rice brand A An", emphasized Mr. Truong Sy Ba, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tan Long Group.

Cooperatives are an important link in the rice value chain

At the workshop, Mr. Trinh Phuoc Nguyen, Deputy Director of the Institute of Climate Change (An Giang University), said that: Agricultural cooperatives are currently playing a significant role in the rice value chain, helping to increase rice production benefits for farmers and complete the rice value chain.

The project of developing a sustainable - safe, and socially responsible rice value chain, implemented based on cooperation and production linkage between Tan Long Group and cooperatives, is a new direction that will help farmers increase their profit.

According to Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Thien, Director of Dong Thap Department of Agriculture and Rural Development: Recently, agricultural production has faced difficulties due to the high prices of farming inputs. Therefore, to reduce production costs, the agricultural sector of Dong Thap strongly recommends farmers apply technological advances in rice cultivation such as "3 Decreases 3 Increase" and "1 must 5 Decreases" and use organic fertilizers, biological pesticides.

Rice farming models that implement these production processes well can help reduce costs in production by 30%. In addition, Dong Thap also encourages farmers to join cooperatives and cooperative groups based on links with businesses to produce rice in a sustainable and quality direction.

Tan Long Group sets a target that by 2030, the total scale of domestic consumption and rice export will reach over 350,000 tonnes per year.

In the domestic market, Tan Long Group's A An Rice brand, since its launch in July 2019, has been distributed at 25,000 rice retail points nationwide, with a total consumption volume of over 180,000 tonnes per year.

A An Rice aims to develop a distribution channel with a scale of up to 100,000 points of sale by the end of 2025 and continue to expand to 200,000 points of sale by 2030, corresponding to a plan to consume 600,000 tonnes of finished rice per year.

Besides, Tan Long Group is also the largest exporter of Japonica rice in Vietnam and Asia. Traditional markets include Korea, Philippines, South Pacific countries (Papua New Guinea, Solomon), Ivory Coast, Ghana, Malaysia, Singapore, China, UAE, Germany, Sweden, Australia, USA. In particular, A An rice has been distributed in international retail systems.
