Vietnamese vegetables account for the largest proportion of the volume of vegetables imported to Taiwan
According to the Agency of Foreign Trade (Ministry of Industry and Trade), in the first two months of 2021, the import volume and value of vegetables from Vietnam to Taiwan have increased strongly. In particular, statistics of Taiwan Customs Office show that vegetables imported from Vietnam reached 7,290 tons, valued at US$ 5.5 million, up 296.4% in volume and 197.8% in value over the same period in 2020.
With the volume of imports to Taiwan as mentioned, Vietnamese vegetables currently occupy the largest proportion in the total volume of vegetables imported into Taiwan. In the first two months of 2021, Taiwan imported 45,180 tons of vegetables, in which vegetables imported from Vietnam hold the proportion of 16.1%.
In terms of value, Vietnam vegetables imported into Taiwan ranked second, after Argentina. In the first two months of this year, Argentina's vegetables imported to Taiwan reached 6,620 tons, worth US$ 14 million, up 5.2% in volume and 62.5% in value over the same period in 2020.
Taiwan’s importation of vegetables from other markets also increased strongly in the first two months of 2021 such as Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand.
Vietnam is the main supplier of vegetables of all types to Taiwan
In the vegetable categories structure, onion, spring onion, chive, garlic, leek and other vegetables in the onion and garlic family, fresh or chilled, are the main import categories of the Taiwan market in the first two months of 2021, with the volume accounting for 30.2% of the total import volume. Argentina and Japan are the two main markets that supply the Taiwan market with these categories.
The second-largest import categories into the Taiwan market are cabbage, cauliflower, wild cabbage, curly kale and other similar edible cruciferous plants, fresh or chilled. This category has a high growth rate in the structure of imported vegetables of the Taiwan market. Vietnam and South Korea are the two main markets supplying this category to the Taiwan market, in which the proportion of imports from Vietnam accounted for 48.3% and imports from South Korea accounted for 48.16% of the total import volume in the first two months of 2021.
As stated by the Taiwan Customs Office, vegetable imports into Taiwan in the first two months of 2021 reached 45.18 thousand tons, worth US$ 45.1 million, up 37.1% in volume and 37.7% in value over the same period last year. 2020.
Including fruits, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports to Taiwan at the beginning of this year also increased sharply. Among the 10 largest markets for Vietnamese fruits and vegetables, Taiwan is the market with the highest growth rate in the first two months of the year. Taiwan is currently ranked 6th among the largest markets for Vietnamese fruits and vegetables, after China, the US, Thailand, Japan and South Korea.
