Strongly shifting Thieu lychee consumption to e-commerce

(VAN)- Hai Duong Thieu lychee has a great crop this year. Harvest of Thieu lychee batch in the main crop will start from June 5th and will be concentrated after June 10th.

According to the Hai Duong Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, during the lychee year crop of 2020 - 2021, The lychee has a high rate of flower blooming and bearing fruit, which is expected to be a good crop this year.

The whole province has 9,168 ha of Thieu lychee (Thanh Ha: 3,328 ha, Chi Linh: 3,548 ha). In particular, early Thieu lychee is about 30% of the area, concentrated in Thanh Ha and partly in Ninh Giang, Thanh Mien; the main crop Thieu lychee occupies 70% of the area, concentrated in Thanh Ha, Chi Linh. It is expected that the output of lychee fruits in the whole province this year will reach about 55,000 tons.

Currently, the batch of early Thieu lychee (U Trung lychee) is being harvested (several early positive areas have been harvested since April 26th, 2021); Tra Trung Thieu lychee (U Hong, U Tham, Thanh Ha hybrid), is in the stage of growing. The main crop lychee batch is in the stage of young fruit, and pulps are developing in some areas.

It is predicted that the batches of early Thieu lychee and the middle Thieu lychee will be about 30,000 tons, the main crop Thieu lychee batch will be about 25,000 tons, up about 15,000 tons over the 2020 crop year.

As the Covid-19 epidemic continues to develop complicatedly both around the world and in the country, it somewhat affects the mentality of producers and purchasing businesses. Moreover, the blooming lychee flower batches are more concentrated than in previous years and are experiencing good crop, large lychee productivity, concentrated harvest time, therefore putting pressure on harvesting and product consumption.

Upon facing the situation, the People's Committee of Hai Duong province has directed provincial departments and branches to prepare plans to take the best initiative in harvesting, transporting and consuming the 2021 lychee crop year.

Considering China - the key export market, up to now, the conditions on warehouses for collection and purchase, facilities for ice-making, production of foam boxes and adhesive tapes, etc… have begun to operate.

The focal points for purchasing and exporting to China in Hai Duong are ready to buy 30-35 thousand tons of lychee and export to China through the land border. Some private establishments in Thanh Ha district have packed lychees for export to China since May 8th, 2021.

Furthermore, Hai Duong has soon prepared plans in order to meet the requirements for construction, issuance of planting area code, packing facilities; coordinate with the Plant Protection Department to prepare solutions about facilities for fumigation facilities... to export lychees to other markets such as Japan, Korea, the EU, Southeast Asian countries...

Regarding domestic markets, Hai Duong Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has coordinated with the Department of Trade Promotion (Ministry of Industry and Trade) and relevant units to prepare the necessary conditions to put Hai Duong lychee on e-commerce platforms.

In addition, the Hai Duong Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has also worked with lychee wholesale and supply systems for large supermarket systems: Big C, Vinmart, Lanchi Mart, BigGreen, Uncle shrimp... to prepare conditions ready for lychee consumption at supermarkets and wholesale markets nationwide. On May 10th, 2021, BigGreen clean supermarket system started selling Thanh Ha lychee in Hanoi.

At the moment, Hai Duong Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is maintaining close cooperation with the Department of Trade Promotion to stimulate e-commerce promotion activities and put lychee and longan products on e-commerce platforms of Viettel Post, Vnpost, and Alibaba. , Sendo, Ladaza,…
