Strengthen inspection and supervision in livestock production

Mr. Trinh Hung Cuong, Deputy Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Fisheries of Hau Giang province said that, in 2023, the unit plans to deploy 2 rounds of inspection, monitoring and propaganda of banned substances belonging to the Beta-agonist group (Salbutamol) in the slaughterhouse and transfer of pigs in the area.

During each inspection, specialized forces will take 80 pig urine samples to monitor the banned substance Salbutamol at slaughter facilities and 20 samples at transit points. Samples will be tested with on-site quick-test kits. If the qualitative result is positive for banned substances, quantitative analysis will be conducted at the laboratory.

Results of the first inspection, the working group of the Department of Livestock, Veterinary and Fisheries of Hau Giang province combined with relevant functional units collected 92 samples to monitor banned substances at slaughterhouses and transit points in the province. Test results using on-site quick-test kits showed that 92/92 banned substance monitoring samples were negative for Salbutamol.

The entire Hau Giang province currently has 19 slaughterhouses, of which 11 specialize in pig slaughter, 3 specialize in poultry slaughter, and the rest are pig slaughterhouses combined with slaughterhouses for buffalo, cows and poultry. In the first 9 months of the year, the Veterinary Department quarantined 135,785 pigs out of the province and quarantined 146,338 pigs imported into the province for slaughter.​
