At the seminar, Ms. Hanh listened to the farmers sharing on planting this new crop.

One of the farmers' biggest questions was the economic benefits of switching from conventional grain corn to silage corn. Ms. Hanh said that the latter requires about 20% more cost on seeds and fertilizers. However, when harvest, farmers do not have to do grain stripping. In addition, thanks to the high yield, the revenue from 1 ha of silage corn is equal.

In the market, silage corn is currently purchased for between VND 850,000 and 1 million/ton. According to the Maize Research Institute, 1 ha of winter crop silage corn is cultivated in about 80-85 days, and the yield is 40-45 tons/ha. So with 1 hectare, farmers can cultivate 3 crops/year, even 7 crops in 2 years, and earn a profit of up to 90 million dong / year.

Due to the high planting density, farmers have to use machines to harvest. Ms. Hanh advised corn growers to gather their fields together to facilitate care and harvest. In addition, when the corn starts silking, growers should not use plant protection drugs.

Many other provinces across the country have promoted and successfully switched to growing silage corn, such as Quang Binh, Nghe An, Son La ... Farmers have benefited a lot in shortening the crops, preventing rain and flood and increasing land use.
