Scientists propose sustainable agricultural development solutions

(VAN) Tra Vinh University recently hosted a scientific seminar on 'Application of science and technology in sustainable agricultural development'.

The scientific seminar saw the participation of managers, scientists, educators, experts, researchers, and business representatives from the agricultural sector. During the event, participants shared experiences and proposed solutions for the application of science and technology in sustainable agricultural development, with a focus on responding to climate change.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Diep Thanh Tung, Vice Rector of Tra Vinh University, the seminar presents an opportunity for the university to showcase its advantages and potentials in agricultural scientific research, as well as foster connections with domestic and international scientists, researchers, and businesses. This collaboration aims to promote the development of sustainable, efficient, and environmentally-friendly agriculture. Additionally, the seminar serves as a platform for scientists to exchange experiences and propose innovative and practical solutions for the application of science and technology in agricultural development, thereby addressing the challenges facing the Mekong Delta region and Vietnam as a whole.

During the seminar, participating scientists made insightful contributions regarding experiences and solutions for the application of science and technology in agricultural production, with a focus on enhancing efficiency, promoting environmental consciousness, and fostering connections to facilitate sustainable agricultural development.

The seminar consisted of two discussion sessions where scientists and researchers presented several high-quality scientific reports.

Regarding crop production, notable reports include: the application of DNA barcoding in crop variety identification; status and efficacy of the entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium anisopliae in controlling coconut leaf beetles in Tra Vinh province. In addition, Thaco Agri Company presented a report on local businesses and opportunities for students in agriculture, livestock production, and processing.

Regarding fishery, participants proposed scientific solutions to address emerging issues in aquaculture and sustainable development of aquaculture species. Notable solutions include: application of probiotics in aquaculture; application of high technology in sustainable aquaculture development; research on the cultivation of whiteleg shrimp in a male-only giant freshwater prawn environment; research on the effects of supplementary Annona glabra leaf extracts on growth, survival rate, and serum antibacterial activity against Edwardsiella ictalurid in shark catfish.

Regarding livestock production, presented research papers addressed current issues in pigs, cattle, and dogs. Notable presentations include: antibiotic reduction in pig farms; evaluation of cattle immune response and antibody maintenance after vaccination against lumpy skin disease in Ben Tre province; the impact of supplementary Shiso essential oil in the diluent environment of dog semen cryopreservation.

Other notable reports include: an overview of indigestible starch and methods for collection; application of indigenous microorganisms in sustainable agricultural development; sustainable sweetener production using fermentation technology; health benefits of Yakult through scientific research; and the application of nanobiotechnology in sustainable agricultural development.

On the afternoon of April 27, Tra Vinh University and Aquaworks Group (South Korea) engaged in discussions and signed a memorandum of scientific cooperation on the research and development of clean water technology.

Aquaworks Group is a leading company in the water environment sector, renowned for its innovation, creativity, technology, and exceptional quality. Aquaworks promotes innovative and modern technologies for water treatment and reuse processes using membranes. Additionally, the company provides water treatment solutions with a wide range products and technologies, ranging from the design and construction of wastewater treatment processes to the production of highly efficient diffusion machines.

Yongil Shin, a representative from Aquaworks, briefly introduced the research, development, and application processes of high-speed wastewater treatment technology and microbial technology. With its outstanding advantages, the company aims to support Tra Vinh University in installing and operating water treatment systems, thereby effectively conserving water resources, promoting environmental protection, and addressing critical climate change challenges.

Subsequently, Tra Vinh University and Aquaworks Group agreed to sign a memorandum of scientific cooperation. Accordingly, Aquaworks will support and provide a water treatment equipment cluster to facilitate technical research and technology exchange between the two parties. Additionally, the equipment cluster will act as a display area to showcase products and their technical operations for interested parties.

Moreover, Tra Vinh University and Aquaworks Group will collaborate on researching water treatment and providing clean water for production and daily life, with a focus on addressing issues of iron-contaminated and saline water in the Mekong Delta region. Additionally, they will expand human resource training programs to develop this field of research on a broader scale.
