Russian pork accounts for half of pork imports into Vietnam

(VAN) Pork imported into Vietnam experienced a strong growth in the first four months of 2021 with pork imports from Russia accounted for nearly half of the total.

According to General Department of Vietnam Customs, imports of pork and pork meat products reached 66,720 tonnes, valued at US$ 127.18 million, up 31.3% in volume and 66% in value compared to the same period in 2020.

Accumulation of the first four months in 2021, Vietnam imported 236,000 tonnes of meat and meat products, worth US$ 464.37 million,  up 7.7% in volume and 31.9% in value compared to the same period in 2020.

The US, India, Russia, Poland and Canada were the top five meat and meat product suppliers to Vietnamese market.

In April 2021, Vietnam imported 16.52 tonnes of chilled or frozen pork, worth US$3 6.54 million, an increase of 164% in volume and 138.2% in value compared to April, 2020.

Accumulation of the first four months of 2021, imports of chilled or frozen pork reached 51,150 tonnes, valued at US$ 116.59, up 118% in volume and 112.3% in value compared to the same period in 2020.

In the first four months of this year, Russia was the largest pork exporter to Vietnam with 22,140 tonnes, worth US$ 59.99 million, rising by 708.3% in volume and 369% in value compared to the same period last year. Russian pork accounted for 43.28% of Vietnam's total pork import volume , followed by Canada and Brazil with 19.08% and 8.76% respectively.
