Rescuing a bear kept in captivity for 17 years in Nam Dinh

(VAN) Animals Asia and forest rangers have recently rescued a bear that was kept in captivity for 17 years in Truc Ninh district, Nam Dinh province.

According to the Vietnam Bear Rescue Center, immediately after receiving the news regarding a tibetan bear handed over to state management agencies for humanitarian conservation purposes; Animals Asia has coordinated with the Nam Dinh Provincial Department of Forest Protection to plan the rescue.

According to the voluntary request by the bear's owner family in Truc Ninh district, Nam Dinh province, this is a nearly 120kg tibetan bear, which has been kept in captivity since 2005.

A rescue team consisting of veterinarians, behavior experts and staff from Animals Asia administered anesthesia to examine the bear's health at the scene. 

Animals Asia named the rescued bear Paddington, after a famous cartoon bear loved by Queen Elizabeth II.
