Kien Giang province's Sub-Department of Fisheries, in collaboration with the Kien Giang Fishery Association, organized a ceremony to release seeds for the regeneration of fisheries resources in commemoration of the 65th anniversary of Vietnam's Fisheries Day. The event was held at Xeo Nhau fishing port in Tan Thanh commune, An Minh district, Kien Giang province on the morning of April 1.
During the ceremony, 61 seed production and trading companies from four districts in the U Minh Thuong region donated 7.2 million shrimp seeds, 80,000 crab seeds, and 12 pairs of broodstock shrimp to be released into the natural environment at the Xeo Nhau estuary, with the aim to contribute to the regeneration of fisheries resources.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, Chairman of the Kien Giang Fishery Association, the releasing of seeds into natural waters for the regeneration of fisheries resources is an annual event organized by Kien Giang province, which is typically associated with the celebrations and events of the fisheries sector. The event encourages the local community to actively participate in the conservation and regeneration of natural fisheries resources through practical actions, thereby joining the collective efforts to protect and restore natural fisheries resources. Conversely, the event discourages the exploitation of fisheries using prohibited instruments, such as explosives, electric shock, chemical toxins; fishing activities during closed seasons or in restricted areas to protect the breeding stock.
The Kien Giang Fishery Association requested all local residents participating in fishery activities to comply with state regulations in order to persuade the European Commission to lift the "yellow card" and to uphold Vietnam's image on the international stage, therebenhancing the reputation and quality of Vietnamese seafood exports in the global market.
On the same day, the Kien Luong district People's Committee organized the release of seeds to regenerate fisheries resources in commemoration of the 65th anniversary of Vietnam's Fisheries Day. Accordingly, Kien Luong mobilized the local community to release over 1.4 million shrimp seeds, 4,000 crab seeds, and more than 30 kilograms of sentinel crab eggs into the natural environment for resource regeneration.
Chairman of Kien Luong district People's Committee Le Thanh Huong encouraged the local community to join hands in protecting the marine environment, protecting and developing fisheries resources, and participating in seed release activities for the regeneration of fisheries resources.
