On May 5, MARD Minister Le Minh Hoan received and worked with a Japanese delegation led by Nikai Toshihiro, Chairman of the Japan-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Alliance.
Minister Le Minh Hoan believes that the trading story in the history of the Japanese merchant who came to Hoi An a few hundred years ago will be the driving force for the two sides to have a stronger cooperation relationship in the coming time, based on the spirit of affection and trust.
The MARD Minister also proposed that Japan provide assistance in training high-quality human resources, with the young being prioritized (Agricultural High School; sending Japanese teachers of agricultural, food, and agricultural product processing to Vietnam), thereby promoting Vietnam's agricultural development strategy in the coming years. High-quality human resources might be beneficial to both nations.
Furthermore, the leader of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development proposed that the Japanese enhance living and working circumstances for Vietnamese laborers.
Regarding ODA, MARD urged that Japan assist the agricultural industry in implementing all topics within the two nations' cooperation framework.
The two nations should encourage collaboration to solve global issues that affect both countries, such as food security, natural disaster response, and digitization, among other things.
For the part of the Japanese delegation, Moriyama Hiroshi of the Liberal Democratic Party praised Vietnam-Japan collaboration and commercial ties as great. In the meanwhile, fruit trading between the two nations has been brisk.
Following the success of Unshu tangerines, Japan wants to sell grapes to the Vietnamese market. Vietnam may export pomelo to Japan.
According to Hiroshi, the import ban on Unshu tangerine to Vietnam, a popular delicacy of Japan's Wakayama Prefecture, was lifted in October 2021. More than a year later, Japan stated that it allow Vietnam's fresh longan into the country. The Japanese side expected Vietnam to complete a draft pest risk analysis study as soon as possible so that it may open its doors to grapes.
Furthermore, Hiroshi said that the two sides may increase collaboration in the sphere of food security when the global food security situation fluctuates.
Furthermore, the Japanese delegation's representative stated that the country's agriculture has been praised for many years, so he hopes that Vietnamese interns and workers working in Japan can absorb and learn from Japanese experience and techniques, then deliver them to Vietnam's agriculture industry, as well as serve as a bridge to promote agricultural cooperation between the two countries.
As Vietnam and Japan have established diplomatic relations since 1973, the relationship between the two nations has developed durably; and in 2023, Vietnam and Japan will mark the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic establishment. The excitement is getting stronger as both sides hope that the relationship will be more and more developed and promoted to a new chapter.
