* Up to now, functional agencies of Dong Nai province have not yet agreed on handling methods
At the working session with the delegation of the Regional Animal Health Office No. 6 and the Dong Nai Sub-Department of Livestock Production and Animal Health, Mr. Ngo Van Sang, Director of Mango Garden Ecotourism Area Co., Ltd. (Bien Hoa city), continued to propose for permission to destroy 20 dead tiger individuals and 1 dead black panther individual that are stinking to prevent environmental pollution and diseases.
Among the 20 tigers, the smallest one weighs about 10 kg, the average is 100-120 kg, and the big is 180-200 kg. The 20 tigers and 1 black panther weighing 80-100 kg were sick and gradually died from September 8-22 at the Mango Garden tourist area.
When functional agencies received the news, they went to the Mango Garden tourist area to work and record the reality. After Bien Hoa's veterinary forces performed an autopsy and took samples of two tiger individuals and one leopard individual, they froze all the dead tigers and leopards into the container. These are also refrigerated containers that store live chicken as food for many animals in the zoo. This area is located quite close to the animal raising area, so the risk of disease spread is unavoidable if this situation continues for a long time.
Furthermore, the incident, in which the containers storing tiger and leopard bodies were unexpectedly damaged, causing the internal temperature to increase to 51 °C, has not yet been resolved. Therefore, Mango Garden Ecotourism Area Co., Ltd. reported to the Dong Nai Department of Natural Resources and Environment asking for permission to handle 21 dead tigers and leopards that are decomposing and stinking to prevent environmental pollution and diseases. However, Dong Nai province's functional agencies have not yet agreed on handling methods.
According to the leader of the Mango Garden tourist area, in the process of caring for and nurturing animals, it is inevitable that the herd will decrease, such as individuals dying due to old age, weakness, diseases, or biting each other. Currently, the business has proposed that the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee direct management agencies to have regulations to coordinate and guide administrative procedures in handling herd reduction incidents, avoiding affecting the care and raising of animals as well as business expenses.
Regarding the unusual death of 20 tigers raised at the Mango Garden tourist area, the Dong Nai Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has requested restrictions on tourists visiting the tiger raising area to ensure the safety of humans and animals. Additionally, the Department also asks the tourist area to strengthen cleaning and disinfection of barns and implement strict disease control measures. At the same time, put up warning signs in the area where tigers are kept, not allowing tourists to come near this area.
"Currently, local functional agencies have worked with the Mango Garden tourist area, requesting restrictions on tourists visiting the tiger raising area to ensure safety for humans and animals. At the same time, this is also an urgent measure to prevent the disease spread and protect the health of the remaining tigers," said Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, Director of Dong Nai Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
