According to the Cultivation and Animal Husbandry Sub-department in Cao Bang, LSD has spread to 344 hamlets and streets of all districts and cities in the province since the beginning of the year, there have been 1,800 cows and buffaloes suffered from the disease, 107 died.
From April until now, the epidemic has been contagious to series of localities, the number of ill cows and buffaloes surged in Bao Lam district (700), Hoa An (over 250), Bao Lac (nearly 150), and Nguyen Binh (over 130).
In the Nguyen Binh district, only from the end of April until now, more than 130 buffaloes and cows have been infected. Concentrated in communes: Minh Tam, Thanh Cong, Hoa Tham, and Trieu Nguyen among others.
Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nguyen Binh district Hoang Thi Hoa said the department has coordinated with the Agricultural Service Center of the district and localities with epidemics to communicate people to quarantine infected and suspected ill buffaloes and cows with healthy ones to monitor and limit the spread of disease.
The department also required communes to report new infection data daily for monitoring and control. Up to now, the district has injected more than 1,000 doses of LSD vaccine for buffaloes and cows.
Faced with the complicated situation of LSD, the Provincial People's Committee and the Agriculture and Rural Development units of Cao Bang province have issued many documents directing localities to focus on drastically and synchronously implementing solutions, focusing on controlling and preventing LSD on buffaloes and cows.
In May, the Cultivation and Animal Husbandry Sub-department in Cao Bang provided 40,000 doses of LSD- Lumpyvac vaccine to localities. By now, districts and cities of the provinces have implemented around 50% of the vaccine doses, mainly for cows as the disease spread seriously in the cowherds.
Director of Cultivation and Animal Husbandry Sub-department in Cao Bang informed, the cause of the complicated development of LSD in recent times was the hot weather, the intermediate host of the disease ticks, gulls thrive. Vaccination work has been implemented but not in time. Veterinary staff in many localities are limited, so vaccination is difficult.
In the coming time, to prevent and control LSD on buffaloes and cows, localities need to promote disinfection and decontamination for households with infected or suspected cattle daily and continuously throughout 3 weeks. Buffaloes and cows are not allowed to roam freely; When detecting symptoms, farmers must immediately report to the veterinary force for verification and instructions on epidemic prevention and control measures.
For ulcers caused by the disease, it is necessary to wash them with physiological saline, potassium permanganate, Iodine alcohol, antibiotic ointment among others to prevent the disease from developing, leading to the death of the cattle.
