In his educational and training career, from 2013 to the present, Dr. Vo Tong Xuan made exceptional contributions to Nam Can Tho University. His roles included Chairman of the Founding Council (2009-2013), Principal (2013-2020), and Honorary Principal (from 2020 to present).

Professor Vo Tong Xuan played a key role in advising the School Board on building and developing its staff, faculty, and employees. Through various initiatives and solutions, he has significantly improved the professional capabilities and teaching methods of the faculty, fostering a culture of expertise, research excellence, and dedication to students.

With his extensive research and teaching career, Dr. Xuan significantly enhanced the quality of education at Nam Can Tho University. His broad expertise positively influenced the development and modernization of the school’s training programs, aligning them with contemporary global educational trends.

As a scientist, Professor Vo Tong Xuan played a crucial role in consulting and supporting scientific research at the university. He not only imparted his professional knowledge but also assisted faculty and students in designing and executing scientific and technological research projects aimed at sustainable agricultural and environmental development. Many valuable research works, textbooks, books, and reference materials produced under his guidance serve agricultural production both domestically and internationally.

Thanks to Professor Vo Tong Xuan's remarkable contributions, Nam Can Tho University has solidified its reputation in education and training, substantially contributing to the development of higher education in the Mekong Delta region and across the country.

Professor Vo Tong Xuan will forever inspire faculty, staff, and students, encouraging them to continue striving for excellence and growth. His legacy supports the university's mission, set out from its inception with the Founding Council, the University Council, and the Board of Directors: "To train high-quality, highly skilled human resources; conduct scientific research, transfer technology, provide consulting services, and meet societal needs, with a focus on health, socio-economics, and engineering technology to advance socio-economic development in the Mekong Delta region and beyond, and to integrate into the Southeast Asian region."

On the morning of August 19, Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Chairman of the University Council at Nam Can Tho University, announced that Professor Vo Tong Xuan passed away at 7:00 a.m. on August 19 after a period of serious illness.

The funeral for Professor Vo Tong Xuan will be held at the Ho Chi Minh City Funeral Home, after which his remains will be taken back to his hometown for burial.

Professor Vo Tong Xuan was a Hero of Labor, a People's Teacher, and a leading expert who made substantial contributions to Vietnam's agricultural sector.

Professor Vo Tong Xuan became the first Vietnamese scientist to win the VinFuture Prize for his work on "Invention and Dissemination of Disease-Resistant Rice Varieties" at the award ceremony held on the evening of December 20, 2023, in Hanoi.
