On December 13, Phu Yen Department of Agriculture and Rural Development held a conference to review crop production in 2021 and implement a plan for the 2021-2022 winter-spring crop.
In 2021, the cultivated rice area in the whole province reaches 55,122 hectares with a total yield of 389,924.7 tons, equal to 70.7 quintals/ha. Some 29,466 ha of the 2020-2021 cassava crop have been harvested with the yield reaching 225.5 quintals/ha and a total output of 664,400 tons. The sugarcane harvested area of the 2020-2021 crop is 21,601ha, with a yield of 57.4 tons/ha and a total output of over 1.2 million tons.

According to the plan, in 2022, the province's total cultivation area will be over 139,500 ha, of which, rice is expected 54,800 ha with a yield of 70.3 quintals/ha and a total output of 385,000 tons. Sugarcane area will be 23,500 ha with a yield of 64 tons/ha and output of 1.4 million tons. Cassava area will be 25,000 ha with a yield of 24 tons/ha and output of 600,000 tons...
At the conference, Mr. Nguyen Trong Tung, Director of Phu Yen Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, emphasized that the recent flood hitting Phu Yen-the historical one in the past 28 years, has caused heavy damage to many irrigation works including Dong Cam system-the largest irrigation project in the province.
For the winter-spring crop 2021-2022, Phu Yen focuses on sowing from December 20 to January 10, 2022. The province’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in coordination with localities and production units, is urgently reinforcing dam banks, inspecting, repairing, and renovating dredging canals, riverbanks, and plots.
Along with that, it has regularly monitored water sources to adjust the supply for production meeting local real conditions, not exceeding the service capacity of irrigation works.
