According to information from the Center for Rescue, Conservation and Development of Organisms, under the Management Board of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, said, the centre has just received 1 individual red-faced macaque (scientific name: Macaca arctoides) and 2 individuals of rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta) from local people.
It is known that at the end of 2023, while working in the fields, Ms Ho Thi Hong (residing in Dong Hoa commune, Tuyen Hoa district) discovered a red-faced macaque and brought it home to take care of it.
The two rhesus macaques are cared for by Ms. Nguyen Thi My Tre (Thanh Hoa commune, Tuyen Hoa district) and Ms. Truong Thi Huong Son (Dong Le commune).
Through the campaign and propaganda process of the authorities, all three macaques were voluntarily handed over to the authorities by the people.
After a period of care, the three rare macaques mentioned above are now in good health and have recovered their wild behaviour, making them eligible to be released back into the wild.
