The journey across Asia on the economic and shortest arterial road from southern Laos, northeast Thailand to the central key economic region of Vietnam has been opened. This is an important premise to promote import and export activities, contributing to the development of cross-border trade - something that localities and businesses have long expected.

Promote trade, strongly develop import and export

On August 14, the Nam Giang - Dak Ta Ooc international border gate was officially put into operation, opening new opportunities for cooperation in economy, trade and investment between the two countries in general, and Quang Nam - Se Kong provinces in particular, especially dealing with the increasing demand for import and export of goods.

As one of the leading logistics enterprises in the central region, Truong Hai International Shipping - Forwarding Company - THILOGI (under THACO) is taking advantages, especially the new shipping route from northeast Thailand/ Southern Laos – Pakxe / Attapeu - Sekong - Dak Ta Ooc border gate (Laos) - Nam Giang - Chu Lai (Quang Nam), to promote the development of road transport services, effectively exploiting cargo resources from regions and countries in the East-West economic corridor.

Right after the opening ceremony, the THILOGI fleet transported and circulated goods, marking the cross-border transport route through this new international border gate.

Currently, the market demand of Laos and Thailand for iron and steel products, construction materials, machinery and equipment, fertilizers... is very large. At the same time, this region also needs to export agro-forestry products, materials... through the central region of Vietnam. Previously, goods were transported mainly through Bo Y international border gate in Kon Tum province.

The opening of the Nam Giang - Dak Ta Ooc international border gate has opened up great opportunities, promoting trade and connecting goods from southern Laos and northern Thailand to central provinces of Vietnam, including Chu Lai port. With a significantly shortened distance (closer than 170km compared to Bo Y border gate), it contributes to regional economic development and the East-West economic corridor. At the same time, national highways 14B, 14E, 14D are invested and upgraded along with the Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway, which will create a smooth transportation route from the border gate to Chu Lai port with a distance of just over 200km.

In particular, the government's approval of the plan to develop Nam Giang border-gate economic zone by 2025 promises to promote trade links and boost import and export.

Exploiting advantages, developing cross-border transport

In recent years, Quang Nam province has given priority to the development of logistics infrastructure, connecting the main traffic routes between highways and national and provincial roads, district and provincial roads, and coastal routes.

It is expected that by June 2022, the province will complete upgrading the sea channel to Chu Lai port from a depth of -8.1m to -10m, ensuring the reception of large ships. This will contribute to the harmonious development of modes of transport by road, waterway...; combine the development of infrastructure, means and modes of transport effectively.

The Directorate for Roads of Vietnam has just proposed the Ministry of Transport to upgrade and expand National Highway 1 through Quang Nam to ensure traffic and goods circulation. In particular, customs procedures at border gates in the area are quite open, customs clearance and container conversion only take a maximum of 2 hours, creating favorable conditions for businesses to develop logistics activities.

Chu Lai Port is a new logistics service destination in the central region. The port is located in the center of the key economic region, with a convenient traffic location, easy to connect to industrial parks, economic zones in the region and international border gates of countries in the East-West economic corridor.

The transportation of goods from the area to the port for export as well as to industrial parks, economic zones... is very convenient. The warehouse system at the port is invested to expand including warehouses, cold storage (total area of more than 92,000 square meters) and container yard (75,500 square meters), providing a variety of services at the port...

Along with the system of cold storage and refrigerated container yards, the port is building a warehouse to gather and distribute fruits and agricultural materials to meet the needs of preserving and exporting agricultural products. With great potential, Chu Lai port is gradually becoming a center for international import and export freight forwarding and transportation.

Mr. Le Tri Thanh - Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee, expects that in the near future, with competitive advantages and synchronization of package logistics services, Chu Lai port will become a bustling international trading port in the area.

THILOGI has invested more than 200 specialized vehicles; to develop transport hubs at the two ends of the South and the North in order to strengthen the connection of goods and increase the source of convective goods; at the same time opening maritime routes to major ports in China, Korea, Japan, India...

With the large-scale investment, THILOGI has become a strategic partner in providing domestic and cross-border road transport services for many large enterprises in the central, central highlands and the southern region.

The plan of the company in 2021 is to transport more than 18,500 containers of agricultural products, 11,000 containers of agricultural materials, 68,000 cattle, 57,700 tons of animal feed and many other goods.
