Van Tien Bridge - the longest bridge in Quang Ninh province up to now connecting 2 districts of Van Don - Tien Yen was joined at 7:30 am on the morning of December 5, after 11 months of construction.

Van Tien Bridge was started in early 2021 at the time outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic happened. This is the longest and biggest bridge out of 32 bridges on the Van Don - Mong Cai highway, and also the longest bridge in Quang Ninh province so far.

The bridge is designed as a permanent reinforced concrete structure 1,515 metres long, including 3 cantilever spans of 55+90+55 metre and 32 superT spans; bridge deck width is 25.25 metres; highway standard with 4 lanes for cars and 2 lanes for emergency stops to ensure a maximum speed of 120km/h...

During the construction process, Van Tien bridge is assessed by experts as having high difficulty due to complex topographical and geological conditions in the area, fast tidal currents with the difference of 3-5 metres, the bottom is a rocks layer, water depth is over 17 metres (equivalent to Bai Chay bridge). It takes long time to locate bored drilling and anchoring floating system to serve construction.

Besides, it is very difficult to mobilize additional human resources to the construction site due to the complicated developments of the Covid-19 pandemic and outbreaks in many areas; raw material costs increased, especially domestic construction steel prices increased by 50% compared to the time of starting the project; extreme weather, heavy rain... have all affected the overall construction organization of the project.

The government of Quang Ninh province has been very active in directing and operating the project to ensure the construction of the bridge completed synchronously with the expressway in 2021. The government of Quang Ninh province also closely monitored the construction work to find out solutions at the right time to overcome difficulties, to create the most favorable conditions for contractors, all for the most effective construction on the basis of maximum application of advanced technology in bridge construction.

Quang Ninh province has consulted with leading experts in the industry to reach the unanimity on the construction solution; to conduct a very careful survey of each drill bit location, carry out priming drills, conduct geological experiments at the construction site, choose the right tide time to carefully construct each pile location; simultaneously adjust the progress chart for each work, overtime, load equipment or change the state of the construction site to closed-in working site in order to prevent disease sources from outside to ensure continuous operation.

On the construction site, there are regularly 300 officials and workers, and the constructing is continuously organized in all 3 shifts; the number of vehicles, equipment and human resources is double the projected plan. There are workers who have been working on the construction site since the begining days, working through the last Tet holidays and have not visited home once.

In April 2021, the main bridge bored piles have been completed to move to the construction phase of abutment pedestals, piers and bridge body. Up to now, the bridge has been joined and is moving to the stage of finishing works such as assembling lights, cover the bridge deck with asphalt, traffic safety system and landscape...

Van Tien bridge is the longest bridge in Quang Ninh province (1,515 metres), is built in less than a year (usually it takes about 3 years to complete bridge of this type). That is why Van Tien bridge will mark an important development in bridge construction technology in Quang Ninh in particular and in Vietnam in general.

This affirms the mastery of technology, the efforts to overcome difficulties of the investor, the contractor and the determination to synchronously complete the expressway along the province of Quang Ninh in the context of difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, contributing to growth in 2021 of the province.

Van Tien Bridge connecting Van Don - Mong Cai expressway will shorten the time from Hanoi to Mong Cai to about 3 hours; connecting with key economic zones, facilitating road traffic from Lang Son province to Mong Cai, Van Don, Ha Long (Quang Ninh province), promoting development of Van Don Airport; connecting the trade gateway of Vietnam, ASEAN with China; creating a driving force for socio-economic development, and attracting domestic and foreign investors to invest in localities where the highways passing by.
