Target of 76% of the area to meet GAP and organic standards

According to the plan, by 2025, the grape growing area in Ninh Thuan province will reach about 1,770ha, mainly concentrated in the following districts: Ninh Phuoc (490 ha), Ninh Hai (600 ha), Phan Rang-Thap Cham City (300 ha), Ninh Son (350 ha), Thuan Nam (30 ha), and Thuan Bac (5 ha); output will reach more than 44,000 tons. In which the area of grapes produced according to VietGAP, GlobalGAP, and organic standards will reach 1,070ha, accounting for about 60% of the province’s total grape area with an output of approximately 28,000 tons.

By 2030, Ninh Thuan will develop the grape growing area to about 2,000ha, concentrated in the following districts: Ninh Phuoc (490 ha), Ninh Hai (650 ha), Phan Rang-Thap Cham City (400 ha), Ninh Son (410 ha), Thuan Nam (50 ha), and Thuan Bac (5 ha); output will reach more than 51,000 tons. In which the area of grapes produced according to VietGAP, GlobalGAP, and organic standards reached 1,520ha, accounting for about 76% of the province's total grape area with an output of more than 40,000 tons.

"In the development of grapevines, Ninh Thuan focuses on planning production areas, planning high-quality grape production areas, and developing mechanisms and support policies for grapevine development. The province’s development orientations aim to ensure the harmony of interests for all participants in developing grapevines in the stages of production, processing, and consumption in the value chain of grapes and grape products", shared Mr. Dang Kim Cuong, Director of Ninh Thuan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Accordingly, Ninh Thuan will continue to expand the planning to produce safe grapes and grapes produced according to VietGAP standards, support producers in building infrastructure, support training, and issue VietGAP certificates to households and cooperative groups producing grapes according to VietGAP standards.

The Ninh Thuan agriculture sector is working closely with localities to develop a plan to transform crop areas with low economic efficiency, such as the areas of rice at the end of the canal with inactive water and other crops with less efficiency, into grape cultivation.

"In order to develop grapevines in accordance with orientations, Ninh Thuan strengthens capacity building for officials of provinces, districts, and communes in directing the implementation of planning and development plans in the direction of safe grape production associated with the consumption market. Through projects and models of agricultural extension, producers will be trained, and point models will be transferred for grape growers to study and apply", said Director Dang Kim Cuong.

Attracting scientists’ participation

According to Mr. Dang Kim Cuong, Ninh Thuan issued the project to promote the development of high-tech agriculture and support policies to attract investment in the province’s hi-tech agriculture in the 2021–2030 period. The project gives priority to the development of programs and plans for promoting the processing of grape products that meet exporting conditions.

Accordingly, the province’s orientation is to select and give priority to 2-3 specific products with competitive advantages in the market to focus investment resources on developing export products, especially paying attention to the infrastructure investment project in the Vinh Hai high-tech grape production area (Ninh Hai district).

In the near future, the Ninh Thuan agriculture sector will guide people to renovate production organizations and promote linkages in the grape industry. Prioritize the application of science and technology to the stages of production, processing, and organizing production management.

Ninh Thuan focuses on developing concentrated grape regions with large-scale and specialized cultivation to facilitate the work of technology transfer and technical investment, especially in the work of developing new grape varieties. At the same time, training and transferring to producers and farmer organizations the new high-quality grape production process, water-saving irrigation techniques, harvesting and preservation techniques, organic grape production procedures, etc.

As for the development of grapevines, Ninh Thuan will implement policies to attract scientists to cooperate in research and transfer technical advances related to grapevines. At the same time, encourage all economic sectors to participate in, develop, and transfer science and technology, ensuring the work of researching and domestically importing good varieties and introducing advanced technology into grape production and business. The province also promotes the application of science and technology, mechanizes, and builds models for applying synthetic biological measures, applying automatic saving irrigation technology, producing clean grapes and organic grapes, and the technology of harvesting and after-harvested grape processing.

"The Ninh Thuan agriculture sector has researched and perfected the technical process of grape production in the direction of safety and quality, associated with environmental protection, and the process of plant care and protection for different grape varieties. Apply scientific and technical advances to production with adaptation to weather fluctuations and apply water-saving irrigation technology to cope with climate change. At the same time, build demonstration models in the direction of bio-organic and synthetic prevention to replicate production," said Mr. Dang Kim Cuong.
