Multiple large-scale livestock projects are initiated in Tay Ninh

(VAN) As a province located in the southern key economic region, Tay Ninh has attracted multiple large-scale projects in the livestock production sector.

Strong attraction

Located in the southern key economic region, Tay Ninh province shares a 240-kilometer border with Cambodia and two international border gates, Moc Bai and Xa Mat. The province features 14 main and auxiliary border gates as well as important traffic axes such as the Trans-Asian Highway and National Highway 22B.

Tay Ninh has relatively flat terrain, fertile land and a relatively complete irrigation system. The local Dau Tieng lake and canal system are ideal for developing agriculture and husbandry. These promising characteristics make Tay Ninh an attractive destination for many investors.

Tay Ninh has attracted 162 projects applying for investment policies since 2016. The provincial People's Committee has approved 113 large-scale livestock projects, including 32 chicken production projects with a scale of 9,457,500 heads; 77 pig production projects with a scale of 959,084 heads; 1 beef cattle production project with a scale of 450 heads; 2 dairy cows projects with a scale of 8,050 heads.

The vast majority of Tay Ninh's investment projects are modern and large-scale, and they have a considerable positive impact on the region's livestock industry. Some exemplary projects include the Vinamilk Tay Ninh dairy farm (Long Khanh commune, Ben Cau district) with a scale of 8,000 cows and calves, the Bel chicken factory in Thanh Thanh Cong industrial zone, featuring various improvements in the EU-standard construction design, and a high-tech poultry hatchery project with total investment capital of VND 200 billion.

In addition, BaF Vietnam Agriculture JSC is investing in multiple projects including a cattle feed factory with an annual capacity of 250,000 tons; 9 projects to raise 27,400 sows and 134,000 pigs for meat. The company is also on the look for a suitable location to build slaughter - processing facilities in the province.

The increasing number of local farms engaging in advanced and modern technology livestock production has stimulated and contributed to the development of Tay Ninh's agricultural sector in the direction of commodity production in association with the consumption market, maintaining a balance between crop production and livestock production.

The livestock industry is rapidly developing and making important contributions to the overall development of Tay Ninh. Production value of the local livestock industry was estimated to be at VND 5,195 billion in 2022, which is a 10% increase compared to production value in 2021. Livestock production accounts for 19.5% of Tay Ninh's agricultural production value.

Expectation for breakthroughs

According to the Tay Ninh Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the local government has appraised and commented on 113 livestock development investment projects in a timely and accurate manner in 2022. This has encouraged many investors to gradually convert to industrial and semi-industrial production with emphasis on biosafety. The provincial People's Committee has approved the investment policy for 3 livestock production projects with a total investment capital of 384 billion VND. Moreover, Tay Ninh province will continue to form production value chains with a focus on high technology, cold storage, meat processing and deep processing of products from pigs, cows and broilers.

In addition to agricultural restructuring, Tay Ninh is developing its livestock sector with an emphasis on improving productivity and quality, gradually restructuring the livestock area, and converting from small-scale production to large farm husbandry. The province will also apply modern technologies to prevent epidemics, reduce costs to lower product prices, increase quality as well as ensure food safety and hygiene.

In the agricultural restructuring plan from 2021 to 2025, Tay Ninh aims to develop high-yield pigs in the direction of industrial farms with several key goals such as increasing the total herd in the direction of organic, bio-safety production with 550,000 heads, reaching 109,000 tons of live pigs, ensuring disease prevention measures. The province highly encourages the development of large-scale cattle farms, creating concentrated pastures for clean feed with high nutritional value.

Tay Ninh is implementing several policies to support people and businesses in terms of capital and agro-product consumption. Supporting loan interest to build high-tech agriculture and good agricultural production practices from 2019 to 2025 is one of the outstanding policies.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Xuan, Director of Tay Ninh Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said, "In the next one or two years, we expect that the livestock sector will earn over VND 3,000 billion in sales and over VND 300 billion in profits annually. At this rate, we will increase the proportion of livestock production in agriculture from 15 - 17% to at least 30% within the next 2 years. This will create a breakthrough balance between cultivation and husbandry as well as fulfill the goal set by the provincial Party Committee, which is to increase the proportion of livestock production in agriculture towards modernity and high technology".

Tay Ninh identifies hi-tech agriculture as one of four strategic breakthroughs in socio-economic development. As a result, multiple high-tech agricultural production areas have been planned. Three livestock production areas are planned from 2022 to 2025, and two areas are planned for 2026 to 2030. On the other hand, the province is inviting and attracting investors to implement projects such as investment in large-scale and high-tech livestock production to lead the local agricultural sector towards sustainable high-tech agriculture.
