According to Vietnam Industry and Trade Information Center under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in December 2020, export of milk and dairy products maintained its strong increase of 65.1% thanks to sharp rise in export turnover of the products to major markets, especially Iraq market (79.2%).
For the whole year 2020, Vietnam’s milk export turnover reached US$ 302.7, up 10.5% compared to 2019. As such, this is the first time the export turnover of Vietnam’s milk and dairy products surpassed US$ 300 million.
Despite negative impact of the pandemic, 2020 milk production still grew well. In which, fresh milk production is estimated to gain 1,702.4 million litres, up 1% compared to 2019. Powdered milk production is estimated to reach 131.6 thousand tons, up 9.1% against the previous year.
In 2020, the dairy industry had a total revenue of VND 113,715 billion, an increase of 5% against 2019 thanks to the abundant supply of domestic milk material, the increasing demand for milk consumption, the maintenance of dairy enterprises’ traditional distribution system as well as the timely and strong promotion of distribution through modern channels.
It is forecasted that in 2021, the domestic dairy industry will continue to grow thanks to increased milk consumption as the demand for high value dairy products is estimated to sharply rise due to young population and the increase in number of middle class people in urban cities.
