According to the Department of Import and Export (Ministry of Industry and Trade), in the 10 months of 2021, Vietnam imported 618.8 thousand tons of meat and meat products, worth US$ 1.19 billion, up 2% in volume and 16 .2% in value over the same period in 2020. The US, Brazil, Russia, India and Germany are the 5 largest markets supplying meat and meat products to Vietnam.
As for pork, in the first 10 months of 2021, imports of fresh chilled or frozen pork reached 135.45 thousand tons, worth US$ 312.84 million, up 27.7% in volume and 22.9% in value compared to the same period in 2020.
Fresh chilled or frozen pork is mainly imported from Russia, accounting for 39.9%, followed by Brazil with 15.7%; Germany accounts for 12.4%; Canada accounts for 10.6%; Poland accounts for 4.6%...
Also in the 10 months of 2021, Vietnam exported 15.31 thousand tons of meat and meat products, worth US$ 60.12 million.
Thus, in terms of value, meat imports are about 20 times higher than meat exports. And if calculated by volume, the amount of imported meat is about 40 times higher than the amount of meat exported.
Vietnam's meat and meat products are exported to 14 markets, of which, the largest export market is China. In the first 10 months of 2021, Vietnam exported to China 2.99 thousand tons of meat and meat products, worth US$ 5.14 million.
In October alone, Vietnam's meat and meat product exports reached 2.02 thousand tons, worth US$ 7.52 million, up 61.2% in volume and 5.2% in value compared to September 2021.
In October, Vietnam's meat and meat export products were mainly as following categories: Meat and edible offal of fresh, chilled or frozen poultry; fresh, chilled or frozen pork; other fresh, chilled and frozen meat or edible offal meat of other animals...
In which, meat and edible offal of chilled or frozen fresh poultry were exported the most with 1.23 thousand tons, worth US$ 2.25 million, up 266.7 % in volume and 243.1 percent in value compared to September 2021.
Meat and edible offal of chilled or frozen fresh poultry are exported to China, Thailand and Hong Kong markets. In which, exports to the Chinese market accounted for 63.1% of the country's total amount of meat and edible offal of chilled or frozen fresh poultry in October 2021.
The second mainly exported meat is fresh, chilled or frozen pork, with 472 tons, worth US$ 3.42 million, down 29.2% in volume and 31.2% in value compared to September 2021; the average export price reached US$ 7,252 per ton, down 2.8% compared to September 2021.
Fresh, chilled or frozen pork is exported mainly to the Hong Kong and Laos markets, with the largest export to the Hong Kong market, accounting for 89.2% of the total export volume of fresh, chilled or frozen pork of the whole country in October 2021.
