According to the letter of MARD, Typhoon No.3 (internationally called Yagi) is the most powerful storm in the past 03 years, made landfall to the northern coastal region on September 7, 2024, causing significant damage across most provinces in the Red River Delta. In the coming days, floods and landslides are expected to continue in several northern mountainous provinces.
Community in the affected areas urgently need support from government authorities, concerned organizations, and individuals. Timely assistance will help secure their livelihoods, get back to normal life and become more resilient to disasters.
“The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is committed to sharing updated information and connecting donors with local authorities in the affected provinces. Our goal is to support organizations in implementing effective emergency relief and post-disaster recovery activities, helping people quickly overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives”, the letter writes.
MARD calls on all organizations and individuals, both domestic and international, to join hands in supporting the affected communities. Every contribution is significant in helping the community through this challenging time.

As of 1:00 PM on September 10, 2024, Typhoon No. 3 has caused 146 deaths or go missing (82 dead and 64 missing).
In addition to the loss of life, 1 million hectares of forest, both natural and planted, have been damaged or collapsed. All single-story houses in the areas hit by the typhoon had their roofs blown off. In Ha Long, 90% of trees were uprooted or cracked, while in Hanoi, 10% of trees were affected.
100,000 hectares of rice fields were flooded, with around 20,000-30,000 hectares completely destroyed.
Currently, the provinces of Thai Nguyên, Yên Bái, and Cao Bang are actively carrying out rescue and recovery efforts to address the aftermath of Typhoon No. 3.
