Nghe An has a herd of nearly 800,000 buffaloes and cows, about 80,000 dairy cows, 980,000 pigs, and tens of thousands of poultry. In recent years, the province's livestock industry has seen many positive changes. The productivity and quality of meat, egg, and dairy products have been continuously improved.
In addition, the province has formed some concentrated commodity production zones and bases, creating highly competitive products in the market, thereby improving economic efficiency. In 2022, the production value of the livestock industry will reach more than VND 14,000 billion, and the growth rate of production value is estimated at 6.24%; the proportion of livestock in net agriculture increased quite well, estimated at 47.94%.
Pig farming retains its unique position through a total herd of almost 1 million heads. However, quantity and quality do not go hand in hand, as evidenced by the small and medium scale. Farming households account for about 60% of the total herd. The remaining 40% are in the chain of big companies such as Masan, Darby, C.P. Vietnam, Chengdu...
The whole province currently has 438 pig farms. Through the review, there are only 18 large-scale farms (1,500 heads or more), 82 medium-scale farms (150 - 1,500 heads), and 338 small-scale farms (50 - 150 heads). In the other direction, more than 140,000 pig farmers were recorded, a worrying number.
Typically, the model of MML Farm Nghe An Co., Ltd. has two closed breeding farms in Ha Son commune, Quy Hop district, meeting a total herd of 125,000 heads (11,000 breeding sows); Thanh Do Co., Ltd. has one breeding sow farm, 11 pig meat farms with a whole herd of 20,000 heads, not to mention an animal feed factory with a capacity of 96,000 tons/year; Darby Pig Breeding Company with more than 1,500 sows; Mavin Group Joint Stock Company is building a breeding sow farm with a scale of 10,000 sows…
From 2019 to now, Nghe An province has attracted 19 concentrated industrial pig breeding projects of large enterprises. By 2025, there will be 10-15 more pig farms in the area, an increase of 250,000 - 300,000 heads compared to the total existing herd.
Based on the livestock development strategy approved by the Prime Minister, on November 9, 2021, the People's Committee of Nghe An province issued Decision No. 4222/QĐ-UBND processing and consuming products from 2021 to 2030.
Nghe An has set a target to ensure that the average growth rate of production value of the livestock industry in the period of 2021 - 2025 reaches 5 - 5.5%, in the period 2026 - 2030 reaches 4 - 4.5%, the proportion of animal husbandry in agriculture will reach 48.5 - 49%, by 2030 50 - 50.5%. Total live meat output for slaughter in 2025 will get 334,000 tons, and in 2030 will reach 412,000 tons.
Nghe An identifies pork as an essential agricultural product in 2021 - 2025, with a vision for 2030. It is forecasted that in the coming time, the province's pig herd will thrive in the direction of concentrated industrial husbandry. By 2025, the total herd will be increased to 1.1 million heads, of which the number of foreign pigs is 750,000, accounting for about 70% of the total herd. By 2030, the total pig herd will reach 1.3 million heads, with foreign pigs accounting for about 80% of the total herd.
According to the roadmap, the pig herd will be concentrated in mountainous and mountainous districts such as Tan Ky, Nghia Dan, Quy Hop, Anh Son, Thanh Chuong, and Con Cuong. In contrast, it gradually reduces herds in lowland districts such as Hung Nguyen, Nam Dan, Nghi Loc, and Dien Chau. This will meet two goals at the same time, ensuring scale and minimizing environmental impact.
From 2020 to now, Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee has approved investment policies for 31 pig breeding projects with a total investment of over VND 17,000 billion.
The province of Thanh Hoa has about 1.3 million pigs raised on farms, accounting for 45% of the total pig herd, with an annual live meat output of about 165,000 tons. In 2022, the revenue from pig farming in the province reached about VND 7,000 billion, making an essential contribution to the growth of agricultural production in the province, creating jobs, and providing income for the people.
According to regional planning associated with environmental protection and stable consumption markets, large livestock enterprises have been formed in many localities such as Nga Son, Ha Trung, Nghi Son town, Nhu Thanh, Hau Loc, Tho Xuan, Trieu Son, Vinh Loc, Yen Dinh; focus on developing large-scale farms in lowland mountainous districts such as Ngoc Lac, Cam Thuy, Thach Thanh, Ba Thuoc, Lang Chanh, Nhu Xuan.
Currently, Thanh Hoa province is actively implementing solutions to attract businesses to invest in pig farming, including projects of large corporations and enterprises, such as: Xuan Thien Production - Breeding Complex of Xuan Thien Thanh Hoa Joint Stock Company; Dabaco Thanh Hoa high-tech breeding pig and commercial pig farm of Dabaco Vietnam Group Joint Stock Company; New Hope breeding and high quality commercial pig production and trading farm of New Hope Thanh Hoa Service and Breeding Co., Ltd.
Notably, among the investment-attracted projects, the high-tech pig breeding area of Xuan Thien Group is considered the largest project in Thanh Hoa province. Currently, in Thanh Hoa province, this enterprise has been investing in 3 hi-tech pig breeding projects, with a total amount of VND 36 trillion.
The three projects are invested and built in Minh Tien, Kien Tho and Nguyet An communes of Ngoc Lac district. Currently, the livestock factory in Minh Tien commune has been completed and put into operation, and other projects are under construction.
