Lam Dong is determined to make organic standard

(VAN) Lam Dong's agriculture sector has initiated an organic agriculture scheme with the goal of achieving an output of 690 tons of vegetables, roots and fruits and 1,500 tons of cow's milk.

Lam Dong has their strength in agriculture development, especially high-tech and smart agriculture. In 2020, this locality has approved the Organic agriculture scheme for the 2020-2025 period with the goal of sustainable development and becoming the leading province in the country in this field.

According to Mr. Tran Van Tuan, Director of Lam Dong Agricultural Extension Center, in 2021, the province aims to develop organic production of crops such as vegetables, roots, fruit trees, rice, tea, coffee, cashews, mushrooms ... that meet organic standards with an area of 70.5 ha, output 690 tons, develop dairy cows that meet organic standards with a scale of 500 heads and 1,500 tons of milk output.

Also in 2021, the province will build 17 production processes for key products, organize 15 training courses, deploy 8 models and support 10 organic products certificates; build brands for 2 products and support 3 organizations and individuals participating in trade promotion of the province's organic certified main products. At the same time, the local plan during this time will be to support 3 chains of production, preliminary processing and processing of products that are certified for organic production.

For effective implementation, the agricultural sector will organize investigation, survey and assessment of the current status of organic production in the province. “To be more specific, each district and city will take representatives of communes, wards and towns that are capable of organic production to conduct an investigation. The survey is distributed to different plants and animals. We also aim to select organizations and individuals that are producing organically, or planning for organic agricultural production to conduct the investigation,” said Mr. Tran Van Tuan.

With the results from questionnaires, surveys and analysis of soil and water samples, the agricultural sector will synthesize and report on the province's organic production area planning. And on the basis of the planning, the agricultural sector will recommend and orient the localities to develop agriculture organically.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lam Dong province, regarding the organic agriculture development, the province has organized a survey and assessment on the current production status and potential to devise a development plan. Accordingly, localities such as Da Lat city, Don Duong, Lac Duong, Duc Trong ... are suitable for organic vegetable development; Cat Tien, Da Teh, Dam Rong, Lam Ha are suitable for organic rice production; Bao Loc, Bao Lam, Di Linh are suitable for developing organic tea and coffee. As for raising organic dairy cows, beef cattle, and egg-laying chickens, the province has also launched a concentrated development plan in Don Duong, Duc Trong, Di Linh, Lam Ha...

In order to develop sustainable organic agriculture, bringing high profits to the implementers, in 2021 Lam Dong province aims to support the building of 2 product brands, at the same time support 3 trade promotions for organic production organizations and individuals. “We will support organic production organizations and individuals to participate in domestic or international fairs to promote their products. This includes support for freight costs, booth rental at fairs and exhibitions”.

In 2021, Lam Dong province has also supported organizations and individuals to build 3 production and consumption link chains with the locals in the region, thereby developing and improving the organic products’ production area and volume in the locality.

Lam Dong Agricultural Extension Center has advised and coordinated with the Sub-Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection; The Sub-Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Fishery have issued 17 production processes for key products including vegetables, roots, rice, tea, coffee, durian, avocado, banana, macadamia, artichokes, mushrooms, female ginseng, dairy cows, beef cattle, egg-laying chickens.
