Invest in 22 irrigation projects for agricultural production

In order to actively source irrigation water to serve agricultural production, recently Thoi Lai district - Can Tho city has invested in irrigation projects and regularly inspected and reviewed irrigation canal systems in the area to have timely dredging plans.

According to the People's Committee of Thoi Lai district, from the beginning of 2023 until now, the district authorities have mobilized the people to dredge 7/8 in-field irrigation works, with a total length of 4,450m, a total volume of 17,100m3, serving 251ha of agricultural land. The cost of implementing these projects is VND 244 million.

In addition, the district also deployed investment in 22 irrigation projects to create resources, using irrigation capital in 2023 with a total length of 50,448m and a total volume of 410,455m3, the service area is 4,350 ha, and the total investment is more than VND 7.64 billion. To date, 21/22 projects have been completed and put into use, the remaining 1 project has reached 80% of the construction volume.

Thoi Lai district has a system of irrigation works serving water supply, including: 1 main canal 8km long (O Mon river), 15 channels creating level 1 sources that are 105.7km long and more than 100 channels creating level 2 sources that are longer than 295.3km. In addition to proactively dredging canals and investing in new irrigation works to serve agricultural production, Thoi Lai also pays attention to the good operation of irrigation works to ensure water sources for production and people's livelihood. In particular, Thoi Lai operates culverts on the O Mon - Xa No canal route in the district to proactively regulate water.

This is a system of irrigation works under the O Mon - Xa No subproject, invested by the Central Government and the city for Thoi Lai district, including an 8km long dike line (from Ba Dam sluice to Kenh Ranh sluice) and 13 other sluices.
