According to Mr Le Viet Bao, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sub-department said that to provide disease-free breeding products and slaughtered animals for food to the people, the unit has coordinated with local authorities to periodically carry out animal disease surveillance for dangerous infectious diseases, causing great economic loss to the livestock industry. In addition, the unit also regularly checks the use of banned substances and antibiotics in livestock farming, in order to detect, handle and promptly prevent violations.
For many years, Ho Chi Minh City has focused on building and being recognized as an epidemic-free zone for rabies in dogs and cats and avian flu. Currently, the city also has 20 communes safe from foot-and-mouth disease and 11 communes safe from classical swine fever.

Among them, there are 27 epidemic-safe facilities for foot-and-mouth disease, 22 epidemic-safe facilities for swine fever and 13 epidemic-safe facilities for African swine fever.
"Ho Chi Minh City also has 40 cattle raising facilities that are safe from foot-and-mouth disease and 6 livestock farms that are safe from avian flu. The construction of animal-disease-free areas and facilities greatly contributes to sustainable livestock development, providing quality, disease-free breeds. Thereby, providing animal products and ensuring food safety for consumers", Mr Bao commented.
