(VAN) Hau Giang province is ready to welcome new investment flows. Attractive policies and active projects are promoting efficiency, meeting the needs of businesses.

Rice, seedless lemon, jackfruit, bronze featherback, field eel are 5 key agricultural products identified by Hau Giang province as opportunities for investment calling. They will form the key product value chain within the province.

Additionally, within the framework of one product per commune OCOP program, Hau Giang province has recognized 105 products. Namely, 48 4-star products, 57 3-star products, 2 products were promoted from 4 stars to be eligible for the Central 5-star OCOP product contest.

Another factor that plays an important role in attracting investment in the agricultural sector, pointed out by Mr. Tran Chi Hung, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hau Giang province, is that the province is implementing a Project on sustainable agricultural development and adaptation to climate change in Hau Giang province in the period of 2021 - 2025, with a vision towards 2030. Subsequently, Hau Giang agricultural sector focuses on transforming the structure of crops and livestock towards ecological agriculture, high technology application and forming large-scale concentrated commodity production areas.

Districts, towns and cities in the province have organized planning and mobilized local people to build raw material areas to serve the production - processing - consumption chain of agricultural products. The province also promotes and attracts investors in the processing of rice, aquatic products, pineapples and fruit of all varieties. Thereby, Hau Giang aims to establish a specialized fruit tree area, focusing on linking with fruit processing and packaging factories for export.

Mien Tay Export Processing Joint Stock Company (Westfood) recently organized the ground-breaking ceremony for a 70,000m2 European standardized agricultural processing factory, located in Hau River Industrial Park, Dong Phu Commune, Chau Thanh District. The project is expected to be completed in 18 months, and when put into operation, the factory will meet the scale of 80,000 tons of raw materials per year as well as utilize the local material area. Additionally, the project aims to become the largest agricultural product processing factory in Hau Giang province.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet, Chairman and General Director of Westfood, the construction of Westfood Hau Giang agriculltural processing factory will contribute to the development of the agricultural sector in the Mekong Delta region as well as completing the value chain of agricultural production, converting low-yielding plant varieties to high-yielding and stable varieties, increasing income for farmers. The General Director also expressed the determination of businesses in cooperating and coordinating to develop Hau Giang agricultural sector.

On the other hand, Hau Giang High-tech Agricultural Park was approved by the Prime Minister to be established in 2012 with a total area of 5,200 ha. The high-tech agricultural production zone accounts for 4,785 hectares within the park.

The Hi-tech Agricultural Park is currently in the processing of being invested in the construction and completion of transportation, electricity and irrigation infrastructure systems. The project has attracted 4 investors to implement projects on production and processing of agricultural products, aquatic products and micro-fertilizers; investors in building high-tech application models with a total micro-scale of 310 hectares and a total investment of 332 billion VND. Investment projects in the Hau Giang High-tech Agricultural Park will enjoy the highest incentives under the province's policies and regulations. Namely, the province will support 100% of the cost for setting up an investment project, not exceeding 500 million VND per project.

With attractive policies, agricultural projects implemented in the province have brought into full play their effectiveness, meeting the needs of businesses. Hau Giang is in a state of readiness to welcome new investment flows to the province.

Hau Giang province enjoys the highest Governmental preferential policies for localities with extremely difficult socio-economic conditions (with the exception of Vi Thanh city).

Specifically, businesses investing in the agricultural sector will be exempted or reduced from land use fees; exempted or reducted from land rent and water surface rent by the Goverment (for a minimum of 05 years). The Government will support businesses in the research, transfer and application of high-tech agriculture; support human resource training for market development; support investment in facilities for the preservation and processing of agricultural products, manufacturing equipment, components, agricultural machines, auxiliary products, etc.
