The red-faced macaque, whose scientific name is Macaca artoides, is on the list of endangered, precious and rare forest animals of group IIB in Decree 06/2019/ND-CP dated January 22, 2019, of the Government on the management of endangered, precious and rare forest plants and animals and the implementation of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.
The red-faced macaque was voluntarily handed over by Mrs Hang's family (Thanh Vinh ward, Phu Tho town, Phu Tho province) to the Phu Lam Forest Protection Office (Phu Tho Forest Protection Department). After that, the Phu Lam Forest Protection Department handed the individual over to the Xuan Son National Park Management Board to complete the procedures for release into the natural environment.
The individual red-faced macaque with the scientific name Macaca artoides, weighing 25kg, about 70cm tall, has been quarantined by veterinary medicine, determined to be in good shape and has a good health status. It was released back to the natural environment at Lot 07, Sub-Area 278, Xuan Son National Park. After being released, the red-faced macaque quickly integrated and adapted to the natural environment.
Recently, the Management Board of Xuan Son National Park has also received a number of monkeys voluntarily handed over by people. The voluntary handover of wild animals from the people shows that the awareness of wildlife protection is increasing, making an important contribution to the conservation and protection of wild animals.
