Mr. Vu Viet Anh, Deputy Director of Hai Duong Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD), said that in 2022, the province's total lychee area will be about 8,900ha. Due to this year's favorable weather and the promotion of science and technology in production, the total yield is expected to reach about 61,000 tons, an increase of more than 10% compared to 2021.
The province's agricultural sector has applied measures to extend the crop so this year's lychee harvest time will be longer starting from mid-May, especially thieu lychees to be harvested from mid-June to early July.
Deputy Director of the provincial DARD said: "Lychee production in 2022 has been invested to improve quality. More than 500ha and 100ha are produced according to VietGAP and Global GAP standards, respectively”.

Besides, Mr. Anh also said due to authority support, the province's growing areas that meet export standards of specific countries and regions have also been expanded quite a lot compared to 2021.
“During the last time, the province also focused on applying science and technology in improving the fruit quality and controlling the production process, especially pesticide residues to ensure quality for export," Mr. Anh added.
The agricultural sector of Hai Duong province also carried out digital transformation in lychee crop off 2022. For example, it has installed equipment in monitoring the environment and epidemics and promoted lychee products on e-commercial platforms to boost consumption.

According to Mr. Anh, the agricultural sector has assessed and predicted a large lychee output for 2022. Therefore, since the very beginning of the year, the DARD has coordinated with other departments and consulted with the provincial People's Committee to issue plans for connecting, advertising, and promoting lychee consumption.
“At the end of this month, there will be a series of trade promotion events such as a lychee festival, a ribbon-cutting program, and a garden opening ceremony to introduce lychee products to foreign countries. A series of events will be organized such as a forum on improving the lychee quality for export and a contest themed "Thanh Ha lychee - the cultural essence of the East," according to the provincial DARD official.
In addition, the DARD has set up detailed plans for now until the end of June on organizing trade promotion events in big cities such as Hanoi, Hai Phong, and Da Nang to promote Hai Duong's specialty lychee products and connect consumption, especially with large supermarkets in big cities.
The number of lychee export contracts to high-demand markets in 2022 is expected to increase by 30-40% compared to the previous year. Photo: Tung Dinh.
Hai Duong DARD has set up a specific plan since 2021 to meet and invite businesses to participate in surveys, research and evaluation programs for lychee consumption and exports for 2022.
Thanks to that, this year, many businesses have signed contracts, especially with those from fastidious markets such as Japan, Korea, and Australia, specifically, orders from Europe have so far increased significantly this year.
“We clearly determine that besides farmers and cooperatives, businesses are also a key factor in the linkage chain. The participation of businesses is extremely important to create a 'tripod' in the link between production and consumption," Mr. Anh affirmed.
Speaking about the number of litchi export contracts for 2022, the Deputy Director of Hai Duong DARD said that it so far has achieved a remarkable increase in fastidious markets such as Japan, South Korea, Australia, and Europe compared to the previous year.
"It is expected that the number of contracts will increase by 30-40% compared to the previous year," he added.
The image of lychee promoted as a cultural quintessence of Hai Duong has had a new feature this year. The organising of events has been renewed and more professional. Activities such as festivals and the garden opening ceremony are also more diverse than last year.
In June, there will be 9 events to be held in provinces and cities, including Lychee Week held in Hanoi. In addition, Hai Duong has worked closely with media agencies to promote the quality of lychee which will be for trade promotion in other provinces.
Hai Duong's agricultural industry has been one step ahead in coordinating with export enterprises to connect and promote the image of Hai Duong lychee to international export markets such as Japan, Korea, Australia and Europe.
