Growth rate of imported pork plummets

According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, imports of chilled or frozen pork totaled 95.43 thousand tons in January-July, valued at USD 221.26 million, an increase of 112.8 percent in volume and 108 percent in value year on year.

Pork imports declined in July compared to prior months, owing to weak demand and abundant local supplies. In July, Vietnam imported 14.57 thousand tons of pork for USD 34.13 million, an increase of 11.2 percent in volume and 13.9 percent in value year on year.

It was apparent that the growth rate of imported pork fell significantly in July compared to prior months.

Vietnam imported the majority of chilled or frozen pork from Russia in the first seven months of 2021, accounting for 40.8 percent of total imports, a significant rise of 27.2 percent over the same period the previous year. Brazil came in second with 10.5 percent, Germany came in third with 13.9 percent, and Canada and Poland followed with 12.3 percent and 5%, respectively.
