At the end of June and the beginning of July 2024, the Shrimp Summit was conducted in India. The Center for Responsible Seafood (TCRS) is responsible for organizing this annual event. The summit drew more than 500 speakers and industry leaders from around the world this year.
At this summit, Viet Uc Group, which represents the Vietnamese shrimp industry, presented the "Sustainable Shrimp Farming and Production Value Chain," which has helped to increase the visibility and prominence of Vietnamese shrimp in the international market.
Shrimp price crises, diseases, and the preservation of shrimp producers' livelihoods are among the numerous obstacles that the global shrimp industry is currently encountering. The 2024 Shrimp Summit convened hundreds of experts, scientists, and key executives from prominent global seafood corporations to exchange and deliberate on practical and comprehensive solutions, with a consistent emphasis on "climate change adaptation" and "sustainability." These discussions were highly engaging, vibrant, and provided a variety of perspectives on critical industry topics.
Viet Uc, a prominent organization in the Vietnamese shrimp industry, was invited by TCRS to send representatives to share the practical story of sustainable shrimp farming in Vietnam over the past 23 years. This included sustainable genetics, sustainable shrimp seed, intensive sustainable shrimp farming, and sustainable shrimp processing.
Viet Uc is resolute in its commitment to investing in and researching the application of technology to lead the market in shrimp seed and expand into other areas, despite the numerous challenges the shrimp industry faces. The company's objective is to provide shrimp farmers with quality seeds and genetics that are both sustainable and effective.
At present, Viet Uc has implemented a closed-loop system that encompasses genetic research and broodstock shrimp breeding centers, high-tech shrimp hatcheries with state-of-the-art infrastructure throughout the nation, sustainable commercial shrimp farming models with stringent biosecurity protocols, and processing sectors that contribute significant value to exported shrimp products.
The quality and value of the products have been improved by the closed-loop "Farm-to-Fork" chain.
Viet Uc played a role in the dissemination of positive perspectives regarding the Vietnamese seafood industry's transformation and its potential for growth to become a global leader at this international event.
The Shrimp Summit 2024 was a resounding success, attracting a multitude of leading seafood enterprises from countries that specialize in shrimp cultivation and processing, including Vietnam, India, Ecuador, and Indonesia. The shared objective was to exchange and deliberate on innovative solutions for the shrimp industry, technological applications that assist small-scale shrimp producers, intensive farming, processing, marketing programs, and more. In addition to the specialized seminars, there were practical visits to large shrimp farms and processing facilities in India. All of these activities fostered a positive environment for learning and connection.
