Fruit export businesses accelerated right from the beginning of the year

(VAN) Right from the beginning of the year, the fruit export market showed improvement. Businesses accelerated purchasing goods from gardeners, and the activities were bustling.

The number of orders increased

After the 2024 Lunar New Year, fruit export businesses accelerated their operations.

Mr. Bui Duong Thuat, Director of Mekong Fruit Import-Export Co., Ltd. (Chau Thanh district, Ben Tre province), said: For fresh coconuts, thanks to the US market accepting official imports after Tet, Orders delivered to partners are also more than the same period every year. This year, MeKong Fruit Import-Export Co., Ltd. opened on the 6th day of Tet. From the 6th until now, the goods have been shipped continuously and smoothly. Orders increased, and prices remained stable. The Company has made all arrangements at the end of the year so that customers who order at the beginning of the year must have goods delivered without problems.

From the beginning of the year until now, every day, the company purchases 20,000 fresh coconuts from farmers at the same price as before Tet, ranging from VND 60,000 to VND 70,000/dozen and higher than the market. In the first week, the Company exported 5 containers of coconuts to partners in the US, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Taiwan, Korea, Europe...

Particularly for the US market, the development of raw material areas is of great interest to businesses. The Company has cooperated with farmers to build a growing area of nearly 200 hectares, exporting more than 30 containers.

To serve export, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hong Thu, Director of Chanh Thu Fruit Import-Export Co., Ltd. (Cho Lach district, Ben Tre province), said that it is necessary to have adequate reserves to have continuous export goods before and after the Lunar New Year.

However, the company has no reserves for fresh fruit. Durian fruit is currently in the off-season, so the output is low. Prices are not stable and are still very high. Mongthon durian is priced from VND 170,000 to VND 180,000/kg at the garden, so some business partners have not yet boldly placed orders. They are waiting for a more stable price.

Chanh Thu Company exports several containers of mango and dragon fruit to the US every week. As for green-skinned grapefruit, the company exports 4-5 containers per month by train.

It is forecast that prices of many agricultural products will continue to increase

Assessing the agricultural product market in the future, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tung, General Director of Vina T&T Group, expects that prices of many agricultural products will continue to increase in the first months of the year and rebalance in the middle of the year.

As for durian, in the near future, China will allow Vietnam to export more frozen products to this country, so the price will increase further, and the market may enter a period of stability. In February and March, when countries like Thailand and Malaysia no longer have durian, Vietnamese goods will continue to be sold at high prices.

Mr. Dam Van Hung, owner of Mien Tay Huong facility (Mo Cay Bac district, Ben Tre province) said he will try to open more markets to increase purchasing prices. At the beginning of the new year, the number of orders improved compared to the same period last year. In the first week of the year, the company exported 3 containers of green-skinned grapefruit to Chinese partners, with more than 60 tons of output.

To have enough goods to operate in the days after Tet, this business placed orders with farmers in advance and harvested early at the beginning of the year. Before Tet, the price of exported green-skinned pomelo types 1 and 2 was more than VND 40,000/kg now, it has decreased slightly to VND 40,000/kg. However, this price is not lower than the supply level of agricultural products.

Domestic market consumption is also good, but prices are not high. Exported goods are almost always in short supply. Standard grapefruit has a high price, but this yield is not high, so it does not increase farmers' efficiency. The key lies in people's lack of farming techniques to produce more standard fruit. Besides, people try to keep their gardens from being invaded by salt water.

In Ben Tre province, last year, the situation of harmful pests and diseases on fruit trees was insignificant and controlled. Output increased mainly in the group of rambutan, orange, lemon, mango, durian, etc. Output is 310,000 tons. This year, this province continues to set a target of 25,000 hectares of fruit tree area and 315,000 tons of output.

To improve the quality of agricultural products to meet export requirements, Ben Tre province's Agriculture and Rural Development sector continues to guide farmers in increasing the application of advanced science and technology in agricultural production and construction and replicating safe production models certified by GAP, organic agriculture, clean agriculture with geographical indications, traceability, etc.

In addition, the province also increased propaganda on solutions to prevent drought and saltwater intrusion in fruit gardens to farmers right from the first days of the new year.
