According to the Agency of Foreign Trade (Ministry of Industry and Trade), vegetable exports to China, the largest market, fell sharply from January to March 2022, totaling USD 455.4 million, down 25.3 percent year on year. The export proportion of vegetables and fruits to the market was 53.6 percent, down 9.5 percentage points from the same period last year.

The impact of blockade orders has hindered the supply of Vietnamese fruit and vegetables to this market due to the complicated developments of the pandemic in China, which have been combined with stringent anti-epidemic policies.

While vegetable and fruit exports to China have decreased, they have increased in other markets such as the United States, South Korea, Japan, Australia, and Taiwan in the first three months of this year.

In particular, vegetable and fruit exports to the United States totaled 61.8 million USD, up 68.4 percent over the same time in 2021.

With high earnings, the culinary trend is increasingly focused on the ingredients of vegetables and fruits to customer demands, and the US is regarded as a viable import market for Vietnamese fruits due to a diverse and multi-level distribution system.
