Expanding Helicteres Hirsute medical herb cultivation area for processing materials for export

(VAN)- Cam Lo district has proposed to Quang Tri province for a VND 3 billion aide to expand the medical herb cultivation area up to 50ha for pharmaceutical processing materials for export.

On April 23rd, according to Mr. Tran Anh Tuan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Cam Lo district, Quang Tri province, in order to meet the needs of raw materials for production for a large number of orders in near future, the People's Committee of Cam Lo district has proposed the People's Committee of Quang Tri province to provide a budget of VND 3 billion in investment to replicate the planting model of An Xoa medical herb to an area of 50 hectares.

Cam Lo district has deployed an experimental planting model of Helicteres Hirsute (An Xoa) medical herb for materials with a scale of 3.5ha for a while, in which the district budget has invested VND 600 million, AGRI-DYNAMICS Vietnam Joint Stock Company and the people has donated VND 427 million. According to local residents, An Xoa medical herb trees grow well and have the capability to adapt to local weather and climate conditions.

At the beginning of April 2021, Cam Lo district farmers' shipment of nearly 1 ton of An Xoa medical herb extracts was successfully exported to the US market for the first time, opening up many opportunities for medicinal plant growers in Cam Lo in particular and Quang Tri in general.

With the aim of have a concentrated raw material area for the production of An Xoa medical herb in large quantity, in the 2021 plan, the People's Committee of Cam Lo district will deploy the expansion of An Xoa medical herb tree area with a scale of 50 hectares and the processing and exportation of An Xoa medical herb with expected volume of 1 to 2 tons/month.

At the moment, the People’s Committee of Quang Tri province has requested the Department of Planning and investment, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Finance to research to propose to the province to consider supporting Cam Lo district to replicate the cultivation model for An Xoa medical herb trees for processing materials for herb extracts to export in large quantity in near future.
