According to the Industry and Trade Information Centre (Ministry of Industry and Trade), on December 17th the European Commission published the Official Gazette for Regulation (EU) 2021/2246 issued on December 15th and amended Regulation (EU) 2019/1793 regarding the temporary application of emergency control measures for certain foods imported into the EU.

Accordingly, the frequency of testing for pesticides with herbs, fruits and food is as follows:

- Coriander: 50%

- Basil: 50%

- Mint: 50%

- Parsley: 50%

- Okra: 50%

- Pepper: 50%

- Dragon fruit: 20%.

- Instant noodles: 20%

This regulation will take effect on the 20th day from the date of publication in the Official Gazette.

Thus it is expected that from January 6th, 2022, Vietnam's instant noodles will be subjected to a test frequency of 20% for residues of ethylene oxide (the sum of both ethylene oxide and 2-chloro-ethanol since they are all referred to as ethylene oxide).

Instant noodles are a synthetic product. Therefore, in case the product contains eggs or animal fat, a certificate from the Department of Animal Health is required.
