The Vietnam Poultry Association (VIPA), in collaboration with Boehringer Ingelheim Vietnam Animal Health Company and International Vietphap Company Limited (Viphavet), organized the forum on "Vietnamese Egg Industry - Ready for International Integration" in Ho Chi Minh city. Subsequently, the forum attracted a large number of major egg producers in Vietnam.

According to Mr. Phan Van Luc, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of VIPA, Vietnam's total poultry egg yield saw an average annual growth rate of 8.8% between 2018 and 2022. Accordingly, chicken eggs accounted for 65% of the increase in yield, with an average annual growth rate of 11%. Additionally, the egg yield in the first nine months of 2023 is estimated at 14 billion eggs, which is an increase of 5.6% compared to the same period in 2022.

A Vietnamese person currently consume an average of 180 eggs every year, which is approximately 20% lower than the global average. However, it is expected that the egg consumption of Vietnamese people will increase to 220 eggs per person per year in the near future. With a population of over 100 million, Mr. Luc affirmed that Vietnam has significant potential in the egg consumption market.

According to Ms. Tran Ngoc Yen, Director of the AgroMonitor Industry Analysis Division, the number of commercial layer eggs sold has the potential of reaching 10 billion in 2023. Namely, Vietnam's total egg yield is expected to reach 18 billion eggs in 2023, with over 14 billion chicken eggs (including 10 billion industrial chicken eggs and 4 billion native chicken eggs).

Several experts at the forum believed that the Vietnamese egg industry offers substantial potential for growth, both within the domestic market and in terms of exports, owing to the remarkable benefits associated with eggs. The export opportunities for the Vietnamese egg industry are also expanding as the country signs additional trade agreements.

However, the Vietnamese egg industry is hindered by several challenges, including economic recession, pressure from disease outbreaks, input-output linkages, incomplete and inaccurate social perception of the outstanding nutritional value of eggs for human health, among others.

Mr. Le Tuan Anh, Director of Hoa Phat Poultry Company, highlighted the significant risks faced by poultry farmers in the egg production sector. These challenges often arise from substantial and prolonged investment costs. Furthermore, the prevailing trend of intensive egg production, marked by an upsurge in breeding activities, often disregards well-defined breeding standards. This lapse in adherence has paved the way for potential outbreaks of severe diseases, including Leukosis and diseases attributed to Mycoplasma species, such as Mycoplasma gallisepticum and Mycoplasma synoviae. These maladies not only compromise the quality of eggs but also cause significant economic losses for poultry farmers.

In response to these issues, stakeholders in the Vietnamese egg industry convened to collectively discuss on the matter, and ultimately advocating for the active involvement of the Vietnam Poultry Association in the establishment of the Vietnam Egg Producers Club. The primary objective of the club is to foster a culture of "Information Sharing" and encourage "International Integration."

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Son, Chairman of VIPA, emphasized, "The establishment of this club aims to facilitate interconnections among businesses and bolster the competitive capacities of its members. Moreover, it is envisioned to provide essential support to these members in their pursuit of untapped potential in the domestic and international egg markets through a spectrum of trade facilitation initiatives."

Furthermore, Mr. Son highlighted that the participation in this club is not exclusive to only VIPA-affiliated businesses. Namely, the club extends an open invitation to any entrepreneur or business entity residing across all 63 provinces and cities within the country. The overarching objective of the club is to foster collaboration, thereby advancing brand recognition and improving business prospects.

The Vietnam Poultry Association, in collaboration with the Department of Livestock Production and the National Center for Agricultural Extension, held a press conference to introduce the third "Vietnam Poultry Golden Product Awards" program on the morning of October 3, 2023 in Hanoi.

At the press conference, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Son emphasized the pivotal role of the poultry industry in contributing to the socio-economic development of Vietnam. Accordingly, the Vietnamese poultry industry has consistently achieved relatively high growth rate within the last ten years, at an average of 5% to 6% per year.
